Stadium at Paploha village At snail’s
pace The Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board, Panchkula, had undertaken the construction of the stadium at Paploha village five years ago. The village panchayat had earmarked six acres for the purpose. However, the construction work has been going on at a snail’s pace for the past over three years
Kalka, March 13 However, the construction work had been going on at a snail’s pace for the past over three years. Village residents said the beginning of work on the stadium had brought a ray of hope to youngsters living in the area. However, the work was being carried out at a snail’s pace by the contractors due to the apathetic attitude of the department concerned, the residents alleged. The project, which was started in 2006, was to initially cost Rs 38 lakh and the work was to be completed in 2008. However, the delay had jacked up the cost to Rs 80 lakh, if the work was to complete by 2011, said official sources of the Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board. The residents alleged that the work on the construction of an approach road from the main Paploha-Charnia road to the stadium had also been hanging fire for over a year. The villagers attributed this to irregular payment to the contractors by the department concerned. The Haryana government had initiated the construction of 154 multipurpose sports stadia across the state to promote rural sports. Out of these, two were to be constructed in Panchkula district — one at Paploha village of Pinjore block and another at Natwal of Raipur Rani block. The work on the Natwal stadium had also been hanging fire. So much so that that the boundary wall of the stadium had already collapsed. Amar Singh, a resident of adjoining Naggal village, said residents had been waiting anxiously for the completion of the work on the stadium as it would facilitate hundreds of sportspersons, especially schoolchildren of Kalka subdivision. |

Immigration co told to refund Rs 1.5 lakh
Chandigarh, March 13 The forum has held the company guilty of deficiency in services and trade malpractices. In order to immigrate to Australia, Palwinder Kaur had contacted the immigration company after seeing their advertisement in a newspaper. She was asked to deposit her original passport, along with
Rs 50,000 as fee. She was asked to pay Rs 10,000, along with her original passport in October 2006 and the balance amount was to be paid after issuance of visa. However, the company later asked the complainant to submit some more documents, along with two drafts of Australian dollar 1,000 and 1,060, which were submitted by her. But there was no response from the company even after repeated visits. In its reply, the company stated that the file was to be processed only after the complainant had submitted the required documents, including educational qualification documents, experience documents, spouse education documents, spouse experience documents, children birth certificate, children educational documents and all family members’ details, but she failed to do so. The company denied that it ever agreed that the balance amount was to be paid only after the grant of visa. The company further stated that the case could not be fully processed due to the non-submission of the required documents. The order, passed by the forum stated: “It’s unfortunate that in the name/assurance of 100 per cent guarantee of immigration to Australia, the company in the form of commercial organisation has emerged to entrap innocent, simple and unsuspecting students/ complainant in their net in order to make quick and easy money by fleecing them through flashy advertisements of bright future and their success, which are the steps in the direction of unfair trade practice. They are a slur on the fair and noble profession of maritime services and such acts need to be condemned.” The forum observed that the company had no right to retain the amount. The act of the company had caused mental agony, pain harassment and financial loss to the complainant and amounts to deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. The company is liable to refund the amount received from the complainant, along with interest and compensation. |
