Kidnapping of Vansh
Ambala, February 11 Addressing mediapersons here today, Inspector General of Police KK Sindhu said the kidnapper had demanded a ransom of Rs 80 lakh from Ashish Sharma, father of the boy. The kidnapper had made a call from an STD booth from Naraingarh, which helped track them down. Sources disclosed that a police party, headed by Kul Bhushan, Inspector, CIA staff, Ambala, chased the culprits to Barwala where there was exchange of fire between the police and the culprits. One of the culprits managed to escape from the white car, in which the child was kidnapped. Sindhu further said one of the accused, Gurpreet Singh, was shot in the leg and injured. He was nabbed by the police and the child was also recovered from the car which had a fake number plate. The two number plates had different numbers. Meanwhile, the child told the police that his kidnappers had treated him well and offered him cold drink. They had also told him that no harm would be done to him. According to sources, Vansh alighted from the school bus near his residence in Defence Colony yesterday around 3.15 pm. However, as the child alighted from the school bus, a white-coloured car appeared on the scene and vanished with the child. Senior police officials, including IG and SP, immediately rushed to the residence of the victim. The police party swung into action and sounded an alert in Ambala and border areas of the district. PANCHKULA: According sources in GMCH, Chandigarh, Gurpreet Singh (21), who had received a bullet injury in the right foot during yesterday’s encounter, was still not in a position to give any statement to the police. However, the condition of the accused is stated to be stable and the police would be able to record his statement in a day or two. Meanwhile, the Chandimandir police has registered a case against Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Taranbali village, Mohali district, and others in a case of an attempt to murder a policeman. They have also been booked under the Arms Act. SHO Jangsher Singh said after the release of Gurpreet from the GMCH he would be sent to judicial custody for further treatment by doctors at Ambala Jail and subsequently interrogated. Meanwhile, Gurpreet’s earlier statement that he was a student of DAV College was found to be false. The principal of the college had contacted the police authorities and informed that kidnapper was not a student of their college. |

Cop sent to police lines for misbehaviour
Kharar, February 11 Four students were going in a Maruti car to give interviews. When they reached the Landran roundabout, sub-inspector Rajinder Singh stopped them. One of the students’ requested Rajinder Singh to leave them, saying that his maternal uncle was also in the Punjab police. Rajinder grew irate at this and slapped the students several times. He also allegedly abused them. The student tried to make Rajinder Singh talk to his uncle, but instead Rajinder abused the cop on the other end of the phone as well. Later, SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar ordered Rajinder to go to police lines, thereby stripping him off his traffic duty. |

Rs 5.35 lakh stolen from car in Dera Bassi
Dera Bassi, February 11 When he came out of his house after some time he saw that the windowpane of his car was smashed the money had gone missing. One person was killed in a road accident near here last night. The deceased was identified as Darshan Singh, a resident of Hariao, near Rajpura. According to information, an unidentified three-wheeler hit Darshan Singh on the Ramgarh-Dera Bassi road while he was going towards Mubarkpur. He was admitted in the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, in a serious condition where he succumbed to his injuries. The police has registered a case against the unidentified driver of the three-wheeler. Mohali: The police today booked three persons in a forgery case on the complaint of Hardeep Kaur, a resident of showroom-cum-flat number 13/14, Green Enclave, Daau village. The accused have been identified as Arvinder Arya, a resident of Sector 22, Chandigarh, Rajdeep Singh, a resident of Sector 70, Mohali, and Manjit Singh, a resident of house number 5, Green Enclave, Daau village. The investigating officer stated that Hardeep Kaur, in her complaint, said her husband Kartar Singh died on June 11 last year. She alleged that when her husband was alive, the accused, who were property dealers, made fake registry and took signatures of her husband fraudulently. The police official stated that a case has been registered against the property dealers on the complaint of Hardeep Kaur and further investigations were on. One booked

The police today registered a case of theft against an unidentified person on the complaint of Avinash Talwar, a resident of Phase III-B1, Mohali. The complainant told the police that he, along with his wife and daughter Seema, was at home when a salesman asked his daughter to call her mother outside. In the meantime, the accused managed to flee with two bags containing important documents, two passports and cash. A case has been registered. |
1 held for firing at DAV student
Chandigarh, February 11 The student Girish Bhardwaj sustained injuries on his hand after he was shot at accidentally. Gagandeep Singh was targeting a monkey with the air gun when the pellet accidentally hit Girish, who was then admitted to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMH)-16. His condition is said to be stable. The police said Girish entered the house of Gagandeep Singh in Sector 8 for collecting a cricket ball and Gagandeep Singh opened his air gun, as he was targeting a monkey, who has created a menace in the area. The police have also seized the air gun. A case under section 336 of IPC was registered at the Sector 3 Police Station. Later, the accused Gagandeep was released on a bail. |

3 get RI for abetment to suicide
Mohali, February 11 Handing down the verdict within three months of commencing the trial, the Additional Sessions Judge, Mohali, Rajinder Aggarwal, held the woman’s husband Sanjiv Kumar (34), father-in-law Pritam Chand (59) and mother-in-law Saroj Kumari (55) guilty under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC. The other charges under Sections 304-B (dowry death) and 498-A (demanding dowry) of the IPC against the convicts were dropped by the court for want of evidence. After hearing to the arguments of the public prosecutor and the defence counsel, the Judge observed that the accused had been treating Sonika with cruelty and no one came to her rescue when she allegedly committed suicide in her in-laws’ house. The husband and the in-laws were held guilty on the count of misappropriating the ornaments of the deceased given to her by her uncle at the time of her marriage in 2006. Her paternal uncle brought up the victim after her father died in 2001. The Dera Bassi police had registered a case under Sections 304-B, 306, 406 and 498-A of the IPC against the three persons on the basis of the statement given by Suresh Chander Dogra, paternal uncle of the deceased. He had alleged that few days after the marriage her in-laws started harassing her. The Judge observed that the accused could not explain how the kerosene landed in the house and why no effort was made to save her when she was pouring kerosene on herself. |

Army officer rams car into vehicles
Chandigarh, February 11 The accused, who has been booked for rash driving and then bailed out, has been identified as Col BS Kundal, who is currently posted at Western Headquarters in Chandimandir. The incident occurred around 4.30 pm. The police said the officer was driving rashly in Sector 20 when he hit a motorcycle. Pardeep Kumar, and pillion rider, Sonia, fell and sustained injures. The two siblings are residents of Sector 34. Pardeep runs a shop in Sector 20 and was on his way to home to drop his sister when they were hit. As the officer tried to flee, he knocked down two pedestrians, Mohal Lal and Akshay, and then banged his vehicle into two cars waiting at the Light Point of Sectors 17 and 22. One of the cars was damaged in the accident and the driver, Sanjay Verma, suffered serious injures. He was taken to the PGI where he is under treatment for dislocated collarbone. |

Chandigarh, February 11 He was taken to the GMCH-32 and the police has booked him in a case of suicide attempt under Section 309 of the IPC. His condition is stated to be stable. The police said Paras attempted suicide by cutting his wrist at Burail Jail. He has a rich criminal background and was wanted by the police of several states in murder and dacoity cases. On January 21, another accused in the Tanishq dacoity case Bhura Qureshi had attempted suicide in police custody.

Pardeep scripts DAV-8 win
Chandigarh, February 11 In the first match of the day, DAV-8 drubbed Mohali Cricket Association (MCA) by an undefeatable margin of 118 runs. A brilliant knock of 102 runs by Pardeep Kumar helped the host team to achieve the huge target of 241 runs. Gurmeet Singh also contributed 36 runs in the total. The duo built a partnership of 110 runs for the seventh wicket. In reply, the MCA team only managed to score a total of 122 runs. The visitors fail to face the spin attack of the host team. Spinner Sagar Kumar took four for 30, while Yogesh grabbed three for 30. In the second match of the day, Ropar Cricket Academy defeated DP Azad Cricket Academy by nine wickets.
