‘Peti’ mafia attacks excise officer, driver

Close on the heels of the oil mafia burning an official alive for tightening the noose against them in Maharashtra, an Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) and his driver were attacked by about a dozen members of the ‘peti’ mafia active in the city while they were conducting a routine check for tax evasion at a check post at railway the station here in the wee hours yesterday.

Fear grips department

Fear has once again gripped officials of the excise and taxation department after excise & taxation officer DS Garcha and his driver, Jarnail Singh, were assaulted by unidentified suspects near the city’s train station Wednesday night. Earlier, officials investigating the "fake bill scam" had been attacked several times.
