Panchkula, January 27 The officials of the NIA moved an application before the specially designated NIA court stating that as the ATS of the Rajashthan police, probing the Ajmer blasts, has got Aseemanand’s police remand till February 5, so they would be able to produce the accused only after February 5. Aseemanand, whose 14-day judicial custody
ended today, was to be presented before the court here. However, the Rajasthan ATS had taken him into custody on production warrant earlier in connection with blasts
in Ajmer. Ajmer Court’s order about the police remand of Aseemanand was also produced in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Kanchan Mahi by an official of the Rajasthan ATS. After going through the documents moved by the NIA and the ATS, the court deferred the hearing till February 8. |

Two youths stabbed
Chandigarh, January 27 Unidentified persons stabbed Pardeep Singh, a student of Class XII Government Model School Sector 32, in Sector 22 yesterday. The police said he had a verbal altercation with someone and the latter stabbed him six times before fleeing from the spot. The police said the two did not know each other and got involved in a violent brawl. Pardeep told the police that he could identify the accused. Pardeep’s friend Ravinder Singh was an eyewitness to the incident. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC against the unidentified accused at the Sector 27 police station. In the other incident, Suresh Kumar, 26, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, was stabbed and robbed of Rs 500 and his cell phone by unidentified assailants who came in a Qualis car. The incident took place near Timber Market, Sector 26. The assailants came in a White Qualis car. A case under Section 397 (robbery with intent to cause death) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. The victim sustained serious stab injuries. “The victim failed to note down the registration number of the vehicle. We have recorded his statements and have registered a case,” said Inspector Sri Parkash, SHO, Sector 26 police station. |

One arrested for theft bid
Zirakpur, January 27 Investigating officer Shamsher Singh said the security guard complained that the accused had tried to break the upper portion of the ATM with a stone. The accused was produced before a Dera Bassi court yesterday, which remanded him in judicial custody, the investigating officer added. Fraud
The police booked eight persons on charges of forgery and cheating on the complaint of Amarjit Singh, a resident of Sector 45-B. The accused have been identified as Harnek Singh, Mal Kaur, Kuldip Singh, Bahadur Singh, Baljit Singh, Balkar Singh, Sewa Singh and Hair Singh, all residents of Pabhat village and Hardayal Singh, a property dealer. The complainant had stated to the police that he had purchased a plot of 20 kanal from the accused and they took Rs 11 lakh in advance. He alleged the accused kept on dilly-dallying whenever he asked them to get the plot transferred in his name. The accused neither got the plot transferred in his name nor returned his money, added the complainant. The investigating officer stated that the case was registered after recording the statements of the complainant.
Eve-teasing
Mohali: A security guard, Amandeep Singh, posted at the Army Institute of Law (AIL), Sector 68, allegedly misbehaved with a girl student of the college who had gone out of the college in connection with some work on January 23. In a complaint to the police, Akansha stated that on January 23, when she entered the college gate, the security guard passed a lewd remark at her and tried to physically abuse her. She ran towards the girls’ hostel and lodged a complaint with the college authorities. The security guard is yet to be arrested.
Cheating
Harpreet, a resident of Sector 70, complained to the police that Parkash Chand, Baljeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh and Sandeep Kumar, while posing as owners of a house, cheated him of Rs 6 lakh while charging the amount as the consideration amount for sale of the house. The accused have been booked for cheating. |

Chandigarh, January 27 The Class IV student of Vivek High School finished four strokes ahead of Digraj Singh who could muster a card of 86 followed by Arnav Jain at 88. An 81 card saw Mankirat Singh winning the C category title with Karandeep Kochhar finishing four strokes behind at 85, followed by Jaiveer Singh at 86. Jaywant Choudhary and Karandeep Bajaj were tied for the top slot at 78 in the C category. However Jaywant was declared the winner as he had a better back-nine score. Another stroke behind occupying the third slot was Harsh Gangwar. Dhruv Sheoron emerged the winner in the A Category firing the day's best card of four over 76. Placed a distant second, eight strokes behind, was Natasha Gill at 84, with Prabhdeep S. Ghai another three strokes behind at 88. Chandigarh Golf Club president BS Gill said the fifth and final tournament of the 2010-11 five-leg junior golf championship would be held on April 13 and would be sponsored by Bajaj Travels. Capt GS Ghuman, chairman, tournament committee, said: “We will hold the final junior tournament of the series on April 13 which will be called the Baisakhi Open. Thereafter every year till 2016 the Chandigarh Golf Club will conduct five tournaments to promote junior golf in the tricity.” Gill also welcomed budding golfers to attend the first EGTF junior golf coaching programme of 2011 which will commence at the Chandigarh Golf Club on March 19. |

Mohali, January 27 While Chandigarh disposed of Patiala by four wickets in the semifinal match played at the PCA Stadium here today, Jalandhar shown the doors to Ludhiana after registering a thumping victory of 119 runs over them in the second semifinal held at Ludhiana. Earlier, Chandigarh won the toss and elected to field first. Patiala scored 280 runs for the loss of six wickets in allotted 50 overs. The local team achieved the target by losing six wickets in the course. For Jalandhar, Kunwar Raina played a good innings and scored 98 runs in 113 balls with the help of nine boundaries and a six. He was ably supported by Jiwanjot Singh, who chipped in 72 runs in 104 balls. For Chandigarh, Amit Uniyal (one for 48), Siddharth Kaul (two for 47), Bipul Sharma (one for 52) and Anshul Tripathi (two for 48) were the main wicket takers. Chandigarh, January 27 Earlier today, GNPS-36 sailed into the final after beating DAV Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, by 21 runs. Simarpreet of GNPS put up a good show with both bat and ball. He hit 33 runs and later claimed three for 33 to help his team win the match. Earlier, after winning the toss, GNPS-36 chose to bat first and accumulated 136 for five in the allotted 20 overs. Jaskaran Singh finished as the highest scorer for the team with 47 runs, whereas Jaipreet hit 18 runs. For DAV, Vinay Choudhary took two for 22, followed by Ravi Kumar and Karan, who claimed one wicket each.
