Dr Neki honoured
: Dr N.S. Neki, professor of medicine, Government Medical College and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, was honoured with a state award for his outstanding contribution and social achievements. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal presented the citation and award to Dr Neki during Shaheed Baba Jiwan Singh Martyrdom Day function held recently.

Blood donation camp: The MBBS students of the Government Medical College here today organised a blood donation camp in which about 55 students volunteered and donated the blood. Dr S.S. Shergill, officiating Principal of GMC and Medical Superintendent of GNDU, inaugurated the camp. Dr Ameesha Mahajan, one of the participating student revealed that the students have pledged to make the camp an annual affair. Dr Shergill appreciated the efforts of students.

Govt school excels in quiz contest:
Government Senior Secondary School, Rampur, stood third in the block-level quiz competition in mathematics organised recently. Initially a written test was conducted in which a total of 33 teams participated. The team of Government Senior Secondary School, Rampur, was among the seven teams that were selected for the verbal round.School principal Nirmal Singh honoured the students with cash prize.

To ensure attendance of employees at government offices, Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala, Kavita Singh held surprise checks at the Civil Hospital, Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO), SDO, Panchayati Raj, Tehsil Office, Suvidha Centre and SDM Office of Phagwara subdivision from 4 pm to 5 pm today. The DC found Kulwinder Singh, JE, absent from the BDPO. She also found Tarsem Lal, SDO, Harsh Vardhan, JE, and Saroj Bala, clerk, absent in the office of Panchayati Raj.

Saras Mela at Rajindra College from Feb 11Bathinda: A 12-day Regional Saras Mela will be held from February 11 to February 22 on the premises of the Government Rajindra College here. Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Dr S. Karuna Raju on Thursday released a poster related to the mela. Self-help groups will set up about 200 stalls for selling handloom and handicraft items at the mela.

War widows to be honoured: Five war widows of Army jawans will be honoured by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on the eve of Republic Day. This was decided in the first meeting of the arts, culture and sports committee held on Friday under the chairmanship of Brig Kuldeep Chandpuri.

Challan presented in bribery case:
The State Vigilance Organisation on Thursday produced a challan before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Srinagar, against Ghulam Mohammad Lone, the then senior assistant, Zonal Education Office, Magam in Budgam. The case was registered following a written complaint by Mohammad Yousuf Illahi of the Khag area in Budgam district alleging that the accused was demanding a bribe for placing the name of his brother, Fayaz Ahmad Illahi, in the merit list to facilitate his selection as a Rehabre-e-Taleem teacher.
