1 country-made pistol, 6 cartridges recovered:
Two people were nabbed at a naka on small canal, Harchowal here by a police party of the Shri Hargobindpur police station here and a .12 bore country-made pistol, six live cartridges and a sword was recovered from them. The accused were identified as Mangal Singh of Bhattiwal village and Sukhwinder Singh.

Ludhiana
Patwaris air grievances:
The district administration has not yet paid the pending dues to patwaris for making votes of the in 1996. This was revealed in a meeting of the Revenue Patwar Union held at the Bachat Bhavan today under the leadership of president Bhupinder Singh Grewal. Patwaris rued the administration had not paid them the dues for making of SGPC votes of 1996 and 201.

Judo championship: The only gold medal the Rajasthan team won in the National Schools Judo Championship held at New Delhi recently was clinched by Alisha Chaudhary of Hanumangarh in the 61 kg category. Akanksha Dhankad won bronze in the 27 kg category.

Bilaspur
Auto driver held for rape:
The police has arrested Rajender Kumar, an auto driver from the Raura sector in Bilaspur, for allegedly raping a handicapped woman. It is alleged that he kidnapped her from near the Seer khud bridge in Ghumarwin on December 29. The woman had gone to collect fuel wood when the incident took place. She lodged an FIR the next day at the police station.

9 hurt in clash:
Nine persons, including three women, sustained injuries in a clash over some old land dispute at Sidhra on Tuesday. The police said two parties scuffled with each other over some land dispute. It added that a few of them sustained severe injuries and were admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where their condition was said to be stable. A case has been registered against nine persons.

Srinagar
SHO, guard hurt in militant attack:
A police officer and his security guard were shot at and injured by militants in the Batmaloo area of the city on Tuesday, the police said. The militants attacked Inspector Nazir Ahmed Teli, station house officer (SHO) of Batmaloo police station, at Rekka Chowk around 7.15 pm, injuring him and his security guard. The injured police personnel have been admitted to hospital. The security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the militants.

World Braille Day observed: World Braille Day was observed at the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, at Bemina here on Tuesday. Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo inaugurated the programme. She also inaugurated a primary school for Braille and a follow-up distribution camp at the CRC. Mehraj A. Kakroo, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Hilal A. Parrey, Director, Social Welfare, Kashmir, were also present on the occasion.
