Function held:
The ETT students of third semester enthralled the gathering while welcome new students during a reception organized by DAV College of Education here. Principal Dr Venita Singh inaugurated the function. ETT section in-charge Ashish Makkar spoke on RTE.

Prize distribution function held
:The prize distribution function of Sri Dasmesh Academy, Anandpur Sahib was held yesterday. Air Marshal MM Singh (Retd), member secretary of the Sri Dasmesh Academy Trust, was the chief guest.

Condemned
: General secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (Legal Cell), Parminder Singh Gill, has condemned the state government for issuing an ordinance which takes away the constitutional right of panches of the gram panchayat to remove, pass no confidence resolution against sarpanches under Section 19 of the Panchayati Raj Act 1994. Gill said the state government should not pass it as it was against the basic spirit  of the Constitution as well as the Punjab State Panchayati Raj Act 1994.

CHANDIGARH

Conference
Vivek High School’s Model United Nations Conference kicked off today. Around 130 delegates and 20 delegations, including experts from Chittagong Grammar School, Bangladesh, The Doon School, Dehradun, Modern School, New Delhi, and Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, were present. Principal PK Singh addressed the delegates. A former student Malika Sarkaria, who is now an international lawyer, laid emphasis on the importance of curiosity and perspectives in having fruitful and meaningful dialogues. Secretary general of VHSMUN Saanya Ojha declared the conference open amidst loud cheers. A documentary by Apurv Gupta, a Class XI student of the school, was screened.

Cash looted at petrol station:
Three car-borne miscreants looted Rs 70,000 from workers of a petrol station on the Chautala road in Dabwali today. The miscreants came in a Maruti Swift car and ordered refuelling for Rs 300.  They went inside the office and at gunpoint snatched the cash bag from workers Jatinder and Mohan. A case has been registered.

Special DG, CRPF, meets Governor
: The Special Director General, CRPF, J&K Zone, Anirudh Uppal, called on Governor NN Vohra here on Friday and briefed him about the overall security situation in the state. Uppal gave a detailed briefing to the Governor about the role and responsibility of the CRPF being discharged in coordination with other security forces. 

Srinagar
CRPF jawans escape militant attack
: A patrol party of the CRPF had a narrow escape on Friday as the hand grenade thrown towards it by militants in Pulwama district failed to explode. The militants hurled the grenade at CRPF personnel when they were patrolling near the busy Tral bus stand. The grenade, however, failed to explode, and was later defused by experts of the bomb disposal squad. 

JCO found dead: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the 55 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Kakapora in Pulwama district, a police spokesman said on Friday. Subedar Narinder Singh Chowhan was found dead at the camp in Kakapora. The body was shifted to the 92-Base hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar.
