Maghi Mela on Jan 14: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday held a meeting to finalise the programme and other arrangements related to the Maghi Mela celebrations being held on January 14 at
Muktsar. The meeting was presided over by the PPCC chief, Capt Amarinder Singh, and was attended by senior party leaders and legislators from Faridkot and Muktsar districts. Faridkot MLA Avtar Singh Brar has been appointed chairman of the organising committee of the Maghi
Mela. He will be assisted by all area MLAs and party leaders in organising the function at
Muktsar.

Knowledge network: The Central University of Punjab here will be connected with the National Knowledge Network (NKN) being set up by the Centre. As per the approval given by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the university has been included in 80 prestigious institutions of the national importance that are being connected with the NKN. It will allow the university to use specialised applications like e-libraries, virtual classrooms and large databases to make the university interact with other research and educational institutions across the globe.

Capsules seized: Drug inspector Kulwinder Singh seized 4,300 capsules and 47 syrups from a chemist shop at Ghah Mandi here today. He said the owner of BR Sons Chemist was not able to present purchase and sale record of the medicines owing to which these were seized. He said a report in this regard had been sent to state drug controller for further action.

Eye camp: The Lions Club, Malerkotla, organised a three- day eye operation and general check-up camp from December 4 to 6 at Kali Mata Mandir here. Nearly 656 patients were examined at the camp and 98 of them were operated upon for intra-ocular lens implant at the local Civil Hospital.
