Nagrota (Dharamsala), December 3 While speaking at the rally, he took everybody by surprise stating that he was not aspiring for any post. “I am not in the race for the CM’s post after the next assembly elections. However, similar should be the views of other party leaders from the state. The state Congress should bury the issue of who will be the next CM in a box and hand its keys to party president Sonia Gandhi. The Congress can win the next elections only if it is united”, he said. Congress leader Vidya Stokes also said there was no division in the party. The opposition should not think that the Congress was divided in the house. The presence of all leaders in today’s rally was a clear indication of fact, he said. The other leaders, including HPCC president Kaul Singh and GS Bali, also stressed on need for unity in the party. Bali said Anand Sharma and Viplove Thakur could not participate in the rally due to party whip in the Rajya Sabha. AICC general secretary Mohsina Kidwai said the country had progressed under the UPA government. Various schemes launched by the UPA government had benefited the poorest of the poor. Defending the Union Government in the 2G spectrum scam, she said the opposition was just playing politics over the issue. He also said the UPA government had given grants worth crores to Himachal under various schemes in the last three years. Kaul Singh blamed the state government for allotting 7,000 hectares to outsiders during the last three-year rule. All 3.5 lakh registered Congress workers would be issued I-cards by the party to give them distinct identity, he said. The Congress rally was organised by Nagrota Bagwan MLA and former minister GS Bali. Though it was termed as state-level rally, the entire onus of gathering was on Bali due to which party had managed an average strength. The other prominent Congress leaders included Chandresh Kumari MP from Jodhpur, Sukhwinder Sukhu, chief whip of the party in the Vidhan Sabha, Nikhil Rajour, Asha Kumari, Chander Kumar, Ram Lal Thakur, Rajesh Dhirmani, Yog Raj, Kuldeep Pathania, Sudhir Sharma, Mukesh Agnihotri and Rakesh Kalia. |

Dharamsala, December 3 He said the rally had indicated that the people were happy with the development works being carried out by the BJP government in the state. Kapoor also flayed Congress leaders for playing politics on the issue of cement plant being brought up in Sundernagar. He said all clearances for the project were given by the previous Congress government. Even the environment clearance for the project was given during the stint of the previous Congress government in 2006. |
1 killed, 3 hurt in accidents
Kangra, December 3 The police said Sanjeev Kumar of Hatwas, who was riding his motorcycle, dashed against a pillar of a bridge at Manihi last night and died on the spot. Kapil Dev also of Hatwas, the pillion rider, was injured in the accident and was admitted to the Tanda medical college. A case was registered. Thakur said Parab Sharma of Rajol village was injured in a hit-and-run case when his motorcycle was hit by a tempo at Kutman near here. In another accident, a minor was hit by a scooter and was rushed to local hospital in injured condition. Man killed in Pangi mishap
Chamba: One person was killed on the spot and five others were injured when a tractor they were travelling in met with an accident near Mohini in Pangi tribal subdivision of the district, yesterday. According to a police report received here today, the deceased had been identified as Jeevan Kumar, a resident of the local area. The body of the deceased had been handed over to his kin after carrying out a post-mortem examination. The five others who were injured in the accident were rushed to a nearby hospital. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the driver under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code.

Parallel functions mark Disability Day
Mandi, December 3 The Rashtriya Viklang Sangh held the government-supported district-level function at Sundernagar in which over 150 visually impaired and mentally challenged persons participated. The other function for the differently challenged was organised by self-styled leader of the downtrodden Hemlata Pathania. This function was held with the RTI Bureau and Indian People Theatre Association (IPTA) in Gandhi Bhawan here in which 50 differently challenged participated. District welfare officer TR Dhiman said, “We have invited Hemlata for the function at Sundernagar, but she did not come. She participated in a function at Mandi.” President of the Rashtriya Viklang Sangh Devachand Negi said, “We are not aware about the parallel function, but we stand for the cause to uplift the physically challenged in the state.” He said the government should issue free bus passes to physically challenged, fill backlog quota of 3 per cent meant for all categories of disabled persons and set up senior secondary school for disabled boys along the lines of one that had been started for girls in Sundernagar. On the other hand, Hemlal Pathania claimed that they got support of citizens council at Mandi, Mandi Bar Association, Progressive Writers’ Association to celebrate the day. We sing songs, perform dance and skits in which a few leprosy patients also participated, she added. IPTA convener Lawan Thakur, who brought lepers from Raghunath Ka Paddar to make them the part of the celebration, said the government had failed to implement the demands of the disabled and, hence, they decided to hold this parallel function. Chamba: World Disability Day was observed here today under the aegis of the State Welfare Department. District welfare officer Shakti Prashad Sharma said the state government was spending a sum of Rs 93.25 lakh for the welfare of physically challenged people in the district during the current fiscal year. He said 2,119 physically challenged persons of the district were being provided rehabilitation allowance while 3,850 physically challenged persons had been issued identity cards. Function held

Children of Chandra Abha School for Blind at Sarwari exhibited their skills, showing confidence that the disability could never stop them for developing. Additional District Magistrate RK Pruthi presided over the function. The differently abled persons from the Devbhoomi Viklang Kalyan Sangh, Chandra Abha School for Blind, Navchetna Vishesh School, besides many such organisations, participated in the programme. |
Boycott of SCs
Shimla, December 3 The court passed this order on the petition filed by a local resident, Pyare Lal of Yula village, wherein he alleged that all SC families were socially boycotted. They were not allowed to take their cattle for grazing in the common field. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice V.K. Sharma further directed the SP, Kinnaur, to initiate appropriate steps for maintaining the law and order in the area and also impleaded the DC and district welfare officers as respondent in this case. The court directed the respondents to explain their stand on or before December 31. |

Shimla, December 3 Highlighting their case, the lawyers in their memorandum explained that the present site was most suitable to lawyers and litigants. In their memorandum, they also alleged corruption and irregularities in the construction of the new judicial complex and raised the issue that the association was not associated with any committee formed for selection of the site for the construction of a new complex. |

NH official killed, 10 hurt in bridge collapse
Palampur, November 3 The bridge was under-construction on the bypass of the Pathankot-Mandi highway. It was revealed that a labourer was applying cement concrete on one of the spans of the bridge. National Highway (NH) officials were also present on the spot to supervise the laying of slabs. All of a sudden, the shuttering of the bridge came down along with heavy structures of steel resulting in the death of Kuldip Katoch, a work inspector of the NH, while another work inspector was seriously injured and referred to the DMC, Ludhiana. Contractor S. Behal was also injured in the incident. Palampur SDM Ratten Gautam along with a team of local youth and fire brigade personnel immediately reached the spot and launched the relief and rescue operations. Labourers and the technical staff of the NH, who were buried under tonnes of steel, shuttering and debris, were rescued and rushed to hospital. The SDM said all injured had been admitted to the local civil hospital, where condition of five persons was stated to be critical. Senior officers of the national highway authorities had also reached the spot. The cause of the bridge collapse could not be ascertained immediately. |
