The fatal assault on a man after he was assaulted in the city’s Civil Hospital has yet again brought into limelight the fact that the hospital appears to be becoming a preferred place for warring groups to settle scores. At the same time the incident has demonstrated the ineffectiveness of the cops stationed at the hospital.
Three graduates held for snatching, auto theft

The dream of becoming rich overnight drove these educated youths to the path of crime. With the arrest of three youths, the Meharban police has claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers and vehicle lifters who had allegedly spread panic in different parts of the city with their repeated strikes.

Overflowing sewage raises a stink at Bhadaur House

Area residents as well as visitors to the Bhadaur House market are facing a lot of problems due to a choked sewage pipe that has led to dirty water and refuse overflowing streets in the locality. The pipe, which crosses the main road in front of the market, has been clogged for the past few days. The road in front of Naali Mohalla has also been flooded with water and sewage, causing great inconvenience to shopkeepers and commuters.

BSNL Strike: Day 2
Work in offices, cash counters remains paralysed

With the three-day strike by employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in response to a call given by the joint action committee of the BSNL association, unions of executives and non-executives, work in the BSNL offices, including the customer service centres and cash counters, remained paralysed for the second day in succession.

Farmers vent ire against GAIL

An emergency meeting of the Anti-GAIL Gas Pipeline Action Committee, Punjab, was organised under presidentship of Lakhwinder Singh Bowani today.
The farmers openly gave vent to their anger by accusing the authorities to be insensitive towards the sons of the soil. They vowed not to allow the gas pipeline to be laid through their fertile fields at any cost and agitate against the GAIL authorities and the state government if their genuine demands were not met with at the earliest.

MC mulls opening of alternative routes

Woman set afire by in-laws; gets 85 pc burns
Jagraon, December 2
A married woman was allegedly set afire by her husband and in-laws at Gidarwindi village near Sidhwan Bate last night. The woman is struggling for her life at the local Civil Hospital. Doctors treating her say that she suffered 85 per cent burn injuries and is in critical condition.
