US dims India’s hopes on UNSC 
Obama says it’s a difficult and complicated issue

Washington, November 3
Ahead of his visit, President Barack Obama today described India as a “cornerstone” of the US engagement in Asia. But he held out no assurances on the key topics of support for India's permanent membership of the UN Security Council and ending curbs on the export of dual-use technology, saying both were “very difficult and complicated” issues.

Haryana doubles floor rates
Incentive for farmers who do not resort 
to litigation on acquisition

The Haryana Government today offered a Diwali bonanza to landowners, announcing a steep hike in land acquisition rates, a ‘no litigation’ incentive and a higher annual payment for 33 years to those whose land is acquired.

Punjab farmers to get free power again

The Punjab Cabinet today went all out to appease the agrarian vote bank of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) by restoring free power to farmers. This would end the practice of giving a “productivity bonus” to farmers who paid their electricity bills regularly.
