Body found in field, owner held: The body of Guriqbal Singh, resident of Mohalla Shiv
Nagar, Model Town here, was found in the fields of Bakhshish Singh, resident of Jiwan
Nangal, falling under Kotli Surat Malli police station. Gurdeep Singh,
SSP, said Guriqbal had been missing from his house since September 29. A report of his missing was lodged on October 21 at Civil Lines police station. The body was found when the earth was dug up in the field of Bakshish Singh in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Manjit Singh. Bakhshish Singh was arrested under Sections 302 and 201 of the
IPC.

One dead in accident: A wireless operator Surinder Singh, posted at Bulhowal police station, was killed in a road accident near Khadiala Sainian last evening. According to police sources, a speeding bike (PB-08-K-9176) hit Surinder Singh’s scooter (PB-08-Y-7725), on which he was going to purchase some medicine near Khadiala
Sainian. The motorcyclist, whose identification is yet to be made, fled after the accident. Ludhiana

One nabbed: The Phagwara police has arrested a criminal identified as Nandu of Shahkot and recovered a kamanidar knife from his possession today. The accused was nabbed at a naka laid near Kot Rani under the
Satnampura police station, here today.

Gang of robbers busted, 5 held: The police has busted an inter-district gang of robbers and arrested its five members, including kingpin Kulwinder of nearby Kahnna Dhesian village. DSP Parampal Singh told mediapersons that the other arrested gang members had been identified as Raj Kumar and Avtar Chand of Goraya, Charanjit of Atta and Rana of Dalewal village. The police recovered a .315-bore pistol, five cartridges, four sharp-edged weapons, six stolen mobiles phones and other valuables from the arrested robbers. The DSP claimed that during interrogation, the arrested gang members confessed to their involvements in dozens of crimes in different
districts, including Kapurthala and Jalandhar. Pathankot
Fire breaks out: Furniture, computer and document records were gutted in a fire which broke around 8.15 pm last night in the office of New India Insurance Company on the Dalhousie road here. Two fire tenders took more than one hour to contain the fire. The SP, Bhupinderjit Singh Virk, said the cause of the fire was said to be a short circuit.
