Industrial Model Township
Ambala, October 6 According to sources, the government has to acquire around 2,000 acres for the project. A few months ago, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had announced to setup IMT at Ambala City. MLA Venod Sharma was of the view that the project would boost industrial growth in the region and would further generate job opportunities. A few years ago SEZ was also proposed for Ambala, but later it was deferred due to certain reasons. Recently hundreds of farmers of Panjokhra and adjoining villages gathered at Gurdwara Panjokhra Sahib and decided to oppose the project. The farmers threaten a stir if the government didn’t reconsider its decision. The Sanghrash Samiti formed by the farmers has decided to contact other farmers’ unions of the state to make it a stale-level agitation. The land being acquired for the project falls under Ambala Cantonment constituency. BJP MLA Anil Vij, Ambala Cantonment, has offered support to the farmers. The INLD leaders have also supported the move. Several industrialist of twin city are supporting the IMT, but most village residents are of the view that farmers should not be thrown out of their parental land. Following the agitating mood among village residents, revenue department has not started the acquisition process so far. Recently the Prime Minister had directed the state government not to acquire the cultivated land. The farmers are hopeful that the state government would reconsider their project. |

Police station-17 SHO Jaswinder Singh said he sent an officer from the Neelam police post to the hotel and went to the scene himself as well. On reaching the hotel around 12.45 am, they found the victim emerging out of the hotel. She initially refused to talk to the police about the incident. However, on being questioned by the police, the girl alleged that her employer Malkiat Singh Sandhu had molested her in the hotel room and threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter to anyone. On the other hand, Sandhu claimed that she had introduced Mohit to him as her husband. The police said they told Mohit to come to Chandigarh to take custody of his sister, but he refused and instead told the police to send her alone to Delhi. The police told him that they would send the victim with a police escort to Delhi and hand her over to her family. Narrating the sequence of events, the victim said she had come to the city with Sandhu, who wanted to set up a branch of his visa consultancy services here. They were looking for some place to establish their office in the city and had hired two rooms in a hotel. They had a lunch together. In the evening, Sandhu came to her room for dinner and began making advances. Sensing trouble, she told the accused that she wanted to go to the washroom. From the washroom, she sent an SMS to Mohit seeking his help. Mohit further informed the police. However, when the police told her to show the SMS she had sent to Mohit, she claimed she had deleted it. A police officer said the accused was arrested in the case and was produced before a local court, which reminded him in judicial custody.
