Dhanwantry to take part in BAMS counselling: HC
Chandigarh, September 29 Justice Ranjit Singh added the institute “shall be allocated students, subject to the final outcome of the writ petition. If at later date, it is found that the admission could not have been made, the petitioner shall remain liable for the consequences”. Justice Ranjit Singh observed: “Shri Dhanwantry Educational Society, Ayurvedic College, and Dabur Dhanwantry Ayurvedic Hospital filed this writ petition, seeking direction to the respondents, especially the Union of India, for allowing the petitioner-institution to make admission to BAMS first-year course in the 2010-2011 session. “The plea is that the objection initially raised by the Central Council of India Medicine (CCIM) was that there is shortage of staff as 13 higher faculty members were working against the requirement of 20 teachers. The counsel for the petitioner would refer to a report now given by CCIM, where it is recorded that on a request received from the petitioner-college, Director of Ayurveda, Government of Punjab, was directed to furnish information of existing teaching staff, as per proforma of the CCIM after verification. “After enclosing the copy of the verification report, it is stated that there are 32 eligible teachers working in the college. Despite this report, no order is being passed by the Union of India, granting the permission for making the admission to the petitioner-college”. Justice Ranjit Singh asserted: “Rajiv Atma Ram, senior counsel for the petitioner, submitted that the last date for admission is September 30 and the petitioner-institution is running for the last 33 years. As such, it will suffer a serious prejudice in case orders in regard to grant of admission are not made. Even if there are some deficiencies, the Union of India is expected to pass an appropriate order before the cut-off date, otherwise it may lead to curtailing the legal/fundamental rights of the petitioner-institution.” Before parting with the order, Justice Ranjit Singh issued a notice of motion for October 12. |

CTCC Pradeep Sharma Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, September 29 “Since major decisions are avoided during the ‘Shraadhs’, the list of state presidents is deliberately being delayed by the party high command,” a senior leader said. Recently, Territorial Congress Committee delegates had passed a resolution authorising the AICC president to nominate the CTCC president. The sources said the announcement about the new president would only be made in the first and second week of the next month. Usually the Congress president is imposed from the party high command. In the past, there used to be a semblance of democracy as various candidates used to file nominations. However, this time around no nomination papers were filed by any of the claimants for the top post. Names of various leaders, including incumbent president BB Bahl, former MC Mayor Subhash Chawla, former AITUC president Rampal Sharma and Pawan Sharma, are doing rounds for the coveted post, which assumes importance in the run-up to the civic body poll next year. Normally, union minister for parliamentary affairs and water resources Pawan Bansal calls the shots in the nomination of the new president. While a section of the party wanted status quo ahead of the MC elections, another section was rooting for a president who was a grassroots worker capable of inspiring confidence among the electorate. |
