Barnala
Vehicle lifters nabbed
: Barnala police have arrested at least three car thieves and recovered five cars stolen by them here on Monday. Police sources said Barnala police arrested three thieves and recovered five cars stolen by them from various places including two from village Thalewaal here. They added that these thieves were active in the area for quite a long time. Even as sources said at least three thieves have been arrested, there was no confirmation by the police officials who preferred to remain silent on the issue.

Bassi Pathana
Health camp
: The local Mehar Baba Charitable Trust organised a free eye-cum-medical check-up camp at the community development centre here on Sunday. A team of doctors led by Dr Preet Kamal, Dr Prashant and Dr Satwinder Singh Cheema examined 544 patients belonging to BPL families of 105 surrounding villages. Free medicines, transport, cataract removal surgery and IOL replacements were provided free of cost to beneficiaries. At least 131 persons were diagnosed with cataract and were registered for operation and IOL replacement free of cost. —

Youths enact the hanging of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev during a procession at Dera Bassi on Monday.
Martyr remembered
: The local Shaheed Bhagat Singh Club and New Friends Club organised functions to mark the birth anniversary of the martyr. Club members appealed to youths to adopt the ideology of the martyr. They highlighted the supreme sacrifice made by the patriot for the freedom struggle. The club members later marched through the town holding pictures and banners of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

Family planning camp held
: A family planning camp was organised by the health department at the local civil hospital. Senior Medical Officer Dr SP Garg said senior surgeon Dr Rajesh Sharma conducted vasectomy surgeries on 15 persons. On this occasion, assistant civil surgeon Dr DP Godara handed over Rs 1,100 as an incentive provided by the government to each person who underwent surgery. The office-bearers of the Bharat Vikas Parishad also presented five metre clothes to each person. Dr Godara appealed to people to opt for vasectomy surgery adding that it is the safest and easiest way to adopt family planning method. 

MOGA
Man kills wife
: A drug addict on Sunday night allegedly killed his wife with a sharp-edged weapon in Saide Shah Wala village of the district. The reason of dispute was that accused Resham Singh had developed extra-marital relations with a woman of the same village. When his wife objected to it, Resham started beating her that led to her death. The accused has been arrested.

Sangrur
Salesman murdered
: Some unidentified persons killed Mahavir (40), salesman at a liquor shop, in Phoold village of Moonak on Friday. Police sources said Mahavir’s body was found in the shop on Saturday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was strangulated to death. A case has been registered against unidentified persons.

Mohali
Two held
: The Kharar police arrested two persons for theft from a check point near the Mill road, Landran on Monday. The accused - Satpal and Suraj Kumar - both residents of Rampur district, UP, admitted to having committed thefts in Dashmesh Nagar and Sunny Enclave. A sum of Rs 90,000 and other valuables were recovered from their possession. With their arrest, eight cases of theft had been solved, the police added. 

Car stolen: Rashpal Singh, a resident of Sector 60 (3-B1), reported to the police that his Maruti Zen car (PB 24 8243) was stolen from his house in 3B1 on the intervening night of September 19 and 20. A case has been registered at the Mator police station and the police is investigating the case.

Choi Kwang  Do contest
:Inter-School Choi Kwang Do competition for U-19 girls and boys will start tomorrow at CKD Martial Art School, Sector 16, here. The event, being organised by Panchkula district school education department, will witness competitions in pattern, speed drill, defense drill and air shield drill.

Snatching
: Two motorcycle-borne youths snatched Rs 50,000 from a man on the Nicholson road, near Sadar Bazar, here on Monday. The victim, Sunil Kumar, who works with Anand Transport Company in Halwai Bazaar, was going from HDFC Bank branch to his office when the youths snatched the money from him and sped away. The victim informed the police. The police reached the scene and later registered a case at the Sadar police station.

Senior Citizens Forum office-bearers
: Advocate Jagjit Singh Virk, President, Senior Citizens Forum, Kurukshetra, has nominated the following to the managing committee for a two-year term: Dr AC. Nagpal(vice-president) DP. Karkara(general secretary), SK Shahi(finance secretary), SM Sharma(auditor) and PK Singla(organising secretary). Dr H.C. Goyal, Niranjan Singh, S.P. Kaura, Kalwant Rai and B.D. Bansal have been nominated as executive members.

Blood camp: A blood donation camp was organised by the Botony Department of Kurukshetra University on September 22 to commemorate martyrdom day. As many as 66 units of blood were donated in the camp organised with the cooperation of the Red Cross Society.
