Urban and industrial waste can be used to create better living and aesthetic environments for the society.” Nek Chand added that Le-Corbusier’s use of concrete in its plastic forms inspired him. He recalled how he maintained secrecy and toiled hard for about 20 years on his bicycle to collect about 20,000 natural rock forms and sculptures. “I didn’t prepare any formal plans and drawings, but followed my heart for creation of this garden. My art is not for sale, but it’s an art for the masses,” he said advising students to channelise their energy for creative arts and aesthetic pursuits. Principal SS Sekhon welcomed Nek Chand. MLA slams govt over merger of municipal councils
Ambala, September 27 Miffed at getting no response to his query submitted on May 9 over corruption in NREGA, he sought a thorough investigation into increasing corruption and action against those involved. Anil Vij said development works were lacking in villages and rural areas attached to the corporation were facing utter neglect. He said a large number of pending mutation cases had made the life of common people miserable. After listening to the grievances of people at the PWD Guest House, he said heaps of garbage in residential colonies behind the Banarsi Das Mill spoke volumes about the working of the corporation and exposed lapses on the part of the district administration. The residents rued that corporation’s safai workers never visited their areas to lift garbage. Consequently, drains remained choked, leading to stench. He said the Hooda government’s decision to merge the municipal committees of Ambala and Ambala Cantonment to form a corporation was a wrong one and would prove disastrous for residents of the two towns. He also questioned the rationale behind the administration’s last-month demolition notice to 1,200 owners of houses near the Tangri river, after they had sought power connections. He said they had been on the voter’s list for the past several years. Also, the giving of charge of Municipal Corporation Commissioner to Ambala Deputy Commissioner would hamper the day-to-day working of the corporation, he added. He would meet the Deputy Commissioner on September 30 to take up the problems of residents. |

No new headmistress for SD school yet
Chandigarh, September 27 Justice Permod Kohli also issued a notice of motion for November 30 to the managing committee of the school, the Chandigarh administration and other respondents.
