Non-filing of Returns
I-T dept shoots off notices to 2,000
Ludhiana, September 20
The income tax department has issued notices to tax payees who have not filed their returns for the financial years 2007-08 and 2008-09. In Ludhiana alone, the department has prepared a list of nearly 2,000 tax payees. The process for dispatching the notices has already been started by the department. 

Dengue cases in city soar to 250
Ludhiana, September 20
The number of confirmed cases of dengue fever in the city has gone up to 250 with five to seven patients suspected of being infected admitted to the major hospitals every day. Christian Medical College & Hospital has already confirmed 40 dengue cases after the patients were administered the Elisa test.

A car driver who became enraged when a jail bus carrying about a dozen prisoners to a court was involved in a minor collision with his vehicle could have unwittingly helped them in escaping. The incident occurred today morning at around 10:30 am at the Dholewal flyover.

Making a mockery of credit hours given to doctors for attending lectures and workshops conducted under continued medical education (CME), a senior doctor has reportedly issued credit certificates to his friends and relatives who were not even present at any lecture.

Six caught violating pollution norms

Tightening the noose around violators the Punjab Pollution Control Board raided 26 dyeing units in the city. Six units were caught violating water and air pollution norms. One of the teams raided 12 units on Tajpur Road out of which five were found to be closed.

200 saplings planted

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Kamla Lohtia SD College organised van mahotsava on the college premises today. Rajinder Singh Sandhu, dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Panjab Agricultural University, was the chief guest. As many as 200 saplings were planted on the college campus.

A migrant labourer was murdered by two persons at Malkpur village last night. According to information, Subodh Sharma, who was a resident of Bihar, was staying at Nandi Colony, Khanna, from the past several years.

Ludhiana, September 20
Kabaddi teams from India and Pakistan would lock horns in a friendly match on September 25.City-based NGO Malwa Yuvak Bhalai Club is hosting the contest. Vishal Nayyar, media advisor of the club, said the object behind the match was to consolidate cross-border relations.
