5 super speciality Ayurveda centres to be set up:
The Punjab Government would set up five super speciality Ayurveda centres, besides recruiting 200 Ayurvedic doctors, in its endeavour to promote the Ayurvedic system of medication and treatment, said Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla during the Global Ayurveda Meet - 2010 and Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminar on the role of Ayurveda in lifestyle disorders --- organised by the All-India Integrated Medical Association (AIIMA), in association with Punjab Ayurvedic Medical Services Association. The minister said the government was serious in its efforts to promote Ayurveda, while adding that the construction of one of its super specialty centres to be established at Verka, had already commenced.

Blood bank’s offer:
The Bhai Ghanayia Ji Charitable Blood Bank has decided to provide blood to all needy patients without replacement for the next 10 days. Blood bank president Bhupinder Singh Pahwa said healthy persons between 18-60 years of age are donating blood voluntarily at regular intervals. If the trend of voluntary blood donation continues, then the blood bank may continue to provide blood without replacement.

Woman held with smack: The police arrested Bakhso, presently residing at Denowal village, last evening and seized 200 gm smack from her during a naka near the Canal Bridge at Ibrahimpur. She was booked under sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Agent booked: Avinash Kaur of Miani was duped of Rs 5 lakh by a travel agent, identified as Sukhwinder Singh of Avan Ghore Shah, in the name of sending her son abroad. The police has booked the agent under section 420 of the IPC.

Teachers postpone Assembly gherao plan to Sept 30:
The Punjab State Aided Schools Teachers and Other Employees Union has decided to postpone the gherao of the state Assembly to September 30. Earlier, the union declared to gherao the Assembly on September 24. Stating this in a press-note issued here today, union president Gurcharan Singh Chahal and its general secretary NN Saini said the decision in this regard had been taken in an emergency meeting of its executive committee.

One killed in train mishap:
Rakesh Kumar (27), a resident of local Mohalla Gobindpura, was killed after being run over by a train near Mauli railway station today. He was crossing the railway lines. GRP has sent the body to local Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
