Pre-recruitment camp
: The District Sainik Welfare Office will organise a six-week pre-recruitment camp from September 23 for those who wish to join the Army. The second round of recruitment in the Army for the Doaba region will be held from October 20-23 and for Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Moga and SAS Nagar, it will be held from November 8-13. 

FARIDKOT
Baba Farid Aagman Purb:
The five-day Aagman Purb celebrations of Sufi Saint Baba Sheikh Farid will be jointly organised by the district administration of Faridkot, the Baba Farid Memorial Society and the Gurdwara Godri Sahib Society here from Sunday onwards. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, local MP Paramjit Kaur Gulshan and other leaders have been invited to the event.

AFSO held on graft charge
: A team of the Vigilance Bureau on Friday arrested an Assistant Food Supply Officer (AFSO) red-handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from Harminder Singh, who had applied for the licence of the Sunehra Punjab Atta Scheme of the Centre. The AFSO, Balraj Singh, had allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from Harminder Singh, but the deal was struck for  Rs 3,000.

Karnal
Swine flu claims another life:
Swine flu claimed another life in Karnal, raising the death toll to three in the past two weeks. Vimla Devi (57), a resident of Sector 6, Karnal, died of swine flu in Maharaja Agarsen Hospital, New Delhi, last night. She was referred to Delhi two days ago after she tested positive for swine flue, the family said. Meanwhile, the situation is under control in Kutel village, where over 100 persons, suffering from diarrhoea, have been admitted to hospitals. However, four more patients tested positive for cholera taking the number to 13 and 12 more patients of diarrhoea were admitted to the trauma centre.

J&K Bank scheme for small businesses
r: J&K Bank has launched a specially designed product “JK Bank Saral Finance Scheme to Small Businessmen” to give a financial boost to the small business that form the bulk of the state’s trade economy. Sudhanshu Pandey (IAS), chairman of the Apex Management Committees of the bank, unveiled the scheme at the bank’s corporate office here on Friday. Under the scheme, a maximum amount of Rs 2 lakh shall be provided to the borrower to be repaid in five years. The loan bears a low interest rate of 11.25 per cent. The loan is being sanctioned in the shape of Working Capital Term Loan rather than Cash Credit-SOD limits with simple procedures. 

School timings to change from Sept 23: According to the Director School Education, Kashmir, the timings of schools in Kashmir division will be changed from September 23. The new timing shall be from 9 am to 3 pm in Srinagar city while in rural areas the timing shall be observed from 10 am to 4 pm, an official spokesman said.

Indian, Pak wrestlers to fight friendly bout
: Kashmir may be a bone of contention between India and Pakistan, but wrestlers of the two nations will fight for the 6th Mission-e-Dosti Rustam-e-Indo-Pak Dangal title at Vivekanand Sports Stadium, Katra, next month. To be held on October 14, the event is a part of the coming 15th edition of the Navratra festival commencing from October 8 at Katra.
