Model hunt
: Aspiring youth who want to join the international fashion industry have an opportunity at their hands as Riya Communications has launched an India international model hunt (IIMH) and the candidates can register themselves by October 3.Managing Director Sanjay Kapur said in a press release that the IIMH had created a platform for the youth to showcase their talent. He said the company would launch models at the Couture fashion week, New York, Seattle fashion week, Nova fashion week, Virginia, and the USA.

Auction of unsold plots
: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday gave a nod to the Colonisation Department to hold the auction of 5,354 unsold plots twice a week instead of once as done earlier in different mandis across the state.The decision was taken at a meeting held at the CM’s residence. He approved the proposal of the department to allow them to hold the auction of plots reserved for petrol stations under its site plan. It was informed at the meeting that the auction of these unsold plots would fetch an income of nearly Rs 470 crore to the state government. 

Food security mission: Punjab senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar on Thursday asked the state government to take steps to utilise grant being received by it under the national food security mission claiming that the state’s share for 2010-11 had already been reduced due to this reason. The state receives funds under the food security mission for the distribution of seeds and micro-nutrients. Last year, the state had received Rs 53 crore for the wheat crop and Rs 11 crore for pulses. It was able to spend Rs 46.51 crore and Rs 8.4 crore out of this amount under both heads. This year its allocation for wheat has been reduced to Rs 39 crore and for pulses to Rs 5.7 crore.

MPhil admissions
: Punjabi University, Patiala, has decided to relax the qualifying marks secured by students in the entrance test conducted by the university on September 4 for admission to MPhil courses in various departments. The Dean (Academic Affairs), Dr SS Tiwana, said the candidates were advised to consult the heads of the departments on September 21 at 10 am for further details.

Elevated:The Haryana government has elevated Bhal Singh Balhara, famous Haryanavi actor and singer, from the post of project director (films and cultural affairs) to the additional director in the department of information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs. Balhara shot to fame with his film “Chandrawal” in the early eighties. Balhara is a multi-faceted personality, who has hundreds of film and non-film songs to his credit. 

115 donate blood: To mark the 54th anniversary of LIC, Chandigarh division, a blood donation camp was held at the LIC’s Divisional Office,Chandigarh. The camp received an overwhelming response. Around 115 employees of the LIC Divisional Office and its local branches donated blood. Raghupal Singh, senior divisional manager, LIC, appreciated the noble gesture shown by donors. Dr Usha Rao and Dr Suchet Sachdev of blood bank appreciated the LIC’s move and hoped that more such camps would be held in future.
