3 hurt in tractor-auto collision
Kalka, September 17 According to information, the incident took place on the accident-prone steep-gradient stretch on the Kalka-Paploha road on Thursday around 11.30 am. The auto-rickshaw turned turtle due to the impact of the collision. Subsequently, Salma and Veena and three-year-old girl Kritika sustained serious injuries. The victims were rushed to the local civil hospital, from where Veena and Kritika were referred to General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula. |

Notice served on passport officer
Ambala, September 17 The passport officer in a show-cause notice issued to Viresh Shandilaya on September 6 had stated that the office had issued him a passport under the Tatkal Scheme on May 28, 2010. It was found that a case under Sections 323, 506 IPC was registered against him and the same was under trial in the court of law. This fact was not mentioned in his passport application form, he added. Shandilaya said no case was pending against him. He said the notice had caused mental agony to him and damaged his reputation. He said if the passport officer did not clear the fact immediately he would file a defamation case against him.

Chandigarh, September 17 Sandeep stated that he used to stay with the couple before he shifted to the US in 2005. He said the couple had cordial relations. Anuradha was murdered in May, 2008. Her body was found in the bedroom of her residence in Sector 38. Subsequently, the police had arrested Talla and his two servants, Vijay Pal Singh and Ashok, on charges of murder. Talla, who was at a disco when the murder took place, was the alleged mastermind, the prosecution had said. Both servants had said they had killed Anuradha at the behest of Talla. |

3 booked for fraud
Zirakpur, September 17 Jagdeepak alleged that in 2009 he had contacted Tricity Autos, Zirakpur, to buy a Swift Desire car. The company officials had asked him to pay Rs 6,12,436 by demand draft. William Masih and Ajay Kapoor reportedly took the demand draft from the complainant and promised him the delivery of the car on September 26, 2009. The complainant alleged that, however, the official had given the car to another person. He claimed that even after one year, neither the accused had refunded the money nor delivered the car to him. The police today booked seven persons for allegedly assaulting a woman of Nagla village. The accused have been identified as Balbir Singh, Rajinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Kala, Gurpreet Singh, Jarnail Singh and an unidentified person. The alleged incident took place last night when Karamjit Kaur was at her home. The accused had allegedly broken into her home and started assaulting her. She stated that the accused had tried to grab her land. Cong leader’s son thrashed

Chandigarh, September 17 The police said the trio, who were in an Opel Astra car, thrashed the victim when their car collided with his motorcycle near a rotary on the road separating Sectors 16 and 23 here this evening. The trio sped away but the traffic police stopped the car for speeding and spotting black film. A challan was issued, but when the police found out that a car hit a motorcycle, they were taken to the Sector 17 police station. The accused have been identified as Tarminder Rana, son of a UT police inspector, and his friends Amit Rana and Lawrence Bishnoi. The SHO of the Sector 17 police station, inspector Jaswinder Singh, said a case of causing injuries had been registered and the matter was under investigation. |

ABVP activists clash with police, 15 held
Chandigarh, September 17 However, ABVP representatives claimed that over two dozen students were injured following a lathi-charge by the police. The police stated that four policemen were injured when protesters indulged in stone pelting. A police officer said only two students sustained minor injuries in the clash. The protesters insisted on marching to the secretariat and tried to breach the security cordon, leading to a clash with the police. The police claimed that though they issued verbal warnings to the protesters, the latter refused to budge and had to be pushed back by use of force. Claiming otherwise, local leader Dinesh Chauhan said: “There was no provocation from our side. We were discussing our demands peacefully when the police entered the rally and started beating us up. Several party workers were injured and I am in police custody with a broken arm.” The party had staged the protest demanding holding of student’s election in Haryana colleges and curbing the increasing commercialisation of education. |

Burglary bid at liquor shop
Chandigarh, September 17 This alerted Khanna’s employees, who were sleeping in the shop, and locked themselves inside the shop. As luck would have it, a two-wheeler passed by, forcing the miscreants to flee the scene. The employees mustered strength to call the police only around 5.45 am once they had ensured that the miscreants had left. They also informed Khanna about the incident after which he reached the scene. Khanna said a police control room vehicle and later personnel from the Mani Majra police station along with additional SHO reached the scene to verify the matter. However, no action was taken into the matter till late in the evening, with the police saying theft had not been committed there. Bangalore's Sharmila Nicollet was another two strokes behind at 230. Chandigarh big-hitter didn’t seem to get things in order today. She bogeyed four times, including a double bogey on the eighth to be five over 41 at the turn. Saaniya did get back into her stride in the back nine with a one over 37, but the damage had already been done. She carded a six-over 78 for a three-day tally of 230 to finish a good nine strokes behind the winner. Preetinder started better birdying the fifth after losing a stroke on the third, but bogeys on the seventh and eighth saw her take the turn at two over 38. Chandigarh, September 17 SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, secured second position, whereas PU Campus and SGGS College, Sector 26, remained at third and fourth positions, respectively. Earlier, two goals by Jaspreet Singh, first in the second minute and the other in 35th minute gave the Khalsa College, Gurusar, lead of 2-0 at the half-time.
