Promoted :Dr Ram Singh, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, on his promotion as Joint Director joined the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Punjab,
Chandigarh, here yesterday. He earlier served as Deputy Director in Ropar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts and was instrumental in implementation of many departmental schemes in the districts at grass-roots level.
Saving environment: MRA Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, organised an awareness programme on preserving environment. Students were sensitised about sustainable development, utilisation of renewable energy and benefits of tree plantation. School director S Mahajan and principal S Savant, along with PTA members attended the
programme. Saplings planted: Volunteers of the NSS wing of Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, participated in “My Earth My Duty” campaign in collaboration with Zee news and NYKS and NSS in Sector 22. Pradeep Chhabra, former MC Mayor, Chandigarh, was the chief guest and helped volunteers’ plant 60 saplings. Government Senior Secondary School, Dhanas, celebrated also celebrated the Earth Day today. Medicinal saplings were planted on the school campus. Principal Anita Lekhi addressed the NSS volunteers and motivated them to adopt these plants. Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Sector 30, celebrated Tree Plantation Day today. Students of the NSS and NCC voluntarily participated. The school management committee, Major Vipul Manan Administration officer (2nd Chd BN NCC, Chandigarh) and NSS unit (through Forest Dept) provided around 270 saplings and plants.

Kisan Morcha: The BJP Kisan Morcha has sought a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre for flood-hit farmers and
labourers. Addressing a party workers’ meeting here on Wednesday, national president of the morcha Om Prakash Dhankhad said due to irresponsible attitude of the state government, farmers were forced to bear losses in the shape of floods. He said crops of a large number of farmers got ruined in the recent floods and they should be provided instant relief.

Principal held for molestation: Principal of Draun Senior Secondary School Dr Amit Kumar was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly molesting and threatening two girl students of the school with dire consequences. A case under Sections 376, 354, 506 and 511 of the IPC and Section 2, 3 and 4 of the SC/ST Act has been registered against him.
