No I-Day awards for dist admn employees

With not even a single public servant being conferred an award on Independence Day, resentment prevails among state government officials and other employees who feel their work has not been recognised. This was perhaps the first time no public servant was called up to the stage on the occasion for an award.

Three more suspected cases of swine flu have been admitted in Christian Medical College and Hospital
(CMCH) and Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The samples of all three suspects were sent for testing to the
PGIMER, Chandigarh. The patients were admitted with symptoms of swine flu and were immediately put under quarantine care.

Land grabbers strike on I-Day holiday, bid foiled

Taking advantage of Sunday being a national holiday, land grabbers again tried to take possession of a prime real estate property of a retired university academic. As almost all cops were on their toes on Independence Day duty, the grabbers were busy laying their hand on the land located near Model Town market.

While for most city residents Independence Day was just another holiday, children residing in Ishar Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road marked it with a difference.
The kids, all between 6 to 12 years old, celebrated the occasion with slum children, playing games with them, and decorated the
street corner with miniature flags.

Civil surgeon honoured

Dr Satwant Bhalla, Ludhiana civil surgeon, was honoured with state award by the Punjab Chief Minister during the Independence Day function held at Issru yesterday.
