Bathinda
Bathinda DC to hear complaints today
: The Bathinda deputy commissioner Gurkirat Kirpal Singh will hear the complaints, relating to three departments, of the public on August 12 from 2.30 pm to 5-00 pm in the meeting hall at the Mini-Secretariat here. The complaints should be related to the electricity department, the sewerage department, and the treasury department.

PRTC workers hold rally: On the call of PRTC Workers Action Committee, the PRTC employees on Wednesday held a rally at the gate of the PRTC workshop here in support of their demands. The convener of the action committee Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal said that a convention would be held on August 26 at Patiala for the fulfillment of their demands which included payment of the arrears of new pay scales from January 1, 2006, implementation of two years' condition, in place of three, for the promotion of sub- inspector to the post of inspector. The rally was also addressed by a others including of PRTC Motor Mazdoor Union Sucha Singh.

Market committee meeting: In a general meeting, members of the market committee, Bathinda, on Wednesday passed a number of agenda items, related to the improvement of purchase centres, renovation of farmers' rest house, repair of some roads and saplings of trees. Chairman, market committee, Gurteg Singh Gikku, who presided over the meeting, said, "Besides passing the agenda items, I have penned down all problems and views of the fellow members, which will soon be taken up with the chief minister."

Dalits hold protest
: Members of various Dalit communities today held a protest against the alleged attempt of the district administration of restraining them from installing their holy book at a religious building recently. Scores of protesters today assembled at Ambedkar Bhawan and marched towards the office of the Divisional Commissioner to lodge their protest.

Terminal for international flights: The domestic terminal of the Chandigarh Airport will be ready for international flights by December. This was informed at a meeting attended by senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration, the Customs and Excise Department and the Airports Authority of India.

Panipat
1 dead in clash
: One person was killed as two groups clashed with each other at Bal Jatan village, near here, on Tuesday. Major Singh and Binder got into a confrontation with Dharambir Saini, which lead to a clash. Following this, Major Singh allegedly fired at Dharambir, killing him on the spot. The police said the two groups had some animosity related to the panchayat elections, which had lead to the clash. Relatives and villagers blocked the NH-1, seeking the arrest of the accused. — TNS
