Man looted
: Roula Masih, a government employee and a resident of Chichhrewal village, was injured by robbers, who snatched his purse, containing Rs 18,000 and ATM card, and mobile phone. Employee of the Amritsar Roadways Department, Masih was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Fateh Garh Churian.

2 snatchers held: An employee of the Western Union had a miraculous escape when two motorcycle-borne youths fired at him and snatched a bag containing Rs 1.60 lakh outside his house in Rameshwar Colony this evening. Sukhwinder Singh, SHO, Bhargo Camp, said the employee, Rajesh Kumar, was going to his house on a scooter after withdrawing the cash from HDFC Bank, when the muffled and armed youths, chasing him on their motorcycle, snatched the cash bag and fired at him from a pistol and a revolver. Rajesh had a miraculous escape as the miscreants missed the target. Hearing the gun shots, residents assembled there and the police was informed. Some residents chased the motorcycle and managed to intercept the miscreants near Randhawa Hospital with the help of a police party. The SHO said the miscreants were identified as Harpal Singh and Jang Bahadur, residents of Amritsar. The police seized a pistol and a revolver, besides ammunition from them. The bag with cash was also recovered from them.

Patwari held for graft
: Patwari Ved Singh of Harsana-Rohat revenue circle here was caught red-handed by a vigilance team while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Satish of Fatehpur village. He was arrested and a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him. Satish had lodged a complaint to the IG, Rohtak police range, alleging that Ved Singh had been demanding a bribe for registering “intkal” of a pieceof land.

MC removes encroachments
: The enforcement staff led by Satish Khajuria, Chief Enforcement Officer, today carried out an anti-encroachment drive to clear footpaths, and pavements in the city. The team removed rehris which were found stationary causing obstruction of traffic. The areas where encroachments were removed were Maheshpura, Bakshi Nagar, Akhnoor Road, Muthi, Lower Roop Nagar and Janipur.
