Missing link roads
HC stays land acquisition by GLADA

Ludhiana, August 5
Commuters from Doraha to Ferozepur road, who take GT road to reach Jagraon, Moga and other cities, have not much to cheer, as the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the proceedings for acquisition of land by Greater Ludhiana Development Authority (GLADA) to construct the two missing links.

The body of Parminder Singh (25) of Sandhuan village near Chamkaur Sahib, who went missing five days ago was recovered from Sirhind Canal near Pal Majra village here today.

Dalit bodies seek Ambedkar memorial 
Ludhiana, August 5
Up in arms over the proposed shifting of the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar from Dr Ambedkar Chowk, Jalandhar bypass, due to the construction of a flyover, Dalit bodies yesterday staged a protest and issued an ultimatum to the state government to construct a memorial to the Father of the Indian Constitution or else face a mass agitation.

I-Day: Security beefed up ahead of celebrations

Security has been tightened in the area fearing threat from anti-social elements during the Independence Day celebrations. Planting of a 10-kg improvised explosive device (IED) inside a car near the Air Force Station at Halwara before Republic Day has acted as major factor behind the police increasing the vigil.

Compensation for flood-hit farmers sought

National secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today demanded a compensation of ` 3,000 crore for the flood-hit farmers of Punjab and Haryana.

The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Mandeep Pannu has given a clean chit to Sandeep Bahl, a senior official of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), in the corruption case registered against him.
