Concerns against non-cricketing activities during IPL voiced
Mohali, July 31 Pandove has been asked by IPL’s interim chairman Chirayu Amin to prepare a note of his suggestions so that it would be presented before the BCCI’s governing council’s next meeting likely to be held next month. Pandove, who is also Punjab Cricket Association secretary, voiced his concern against the non-cricketing activities like late night parties by franchisees involving players. “These parties result in upsetting the body clock of the players, which is dangerous for them and the game as well. Therefore, there should be strict restriction on such parties except one get-together function/official dinner during the duration of IPL involving the players, especially the Indian players,” suggested Pandove. He also demanded restriction on the number of matches to be allowed to a player. “With the addition of two more teams, each franchisee will have to play a minimum of 18 matches at the league stage and the teams qualifying will play two more games. The playing of 20 matches in one season for one player is killing and would adversely affect their performance in the national tournaments and international matches. Therefore, the committee may consider putting a restriction on the players to play not more than 12 games during the league stage,” said Pandove. Pandove is also in favour of setting 20 years as the minimum age for the IPL player, so that young players should be discouraged to play improvised shots in unconventional cricket. “Apart from that, the players should be signed only after obtaining the consent of their parent state associations. The governing council had stipulated that a player to be signed by the franchisee must have played 60 per cent of the games in the national tournaments of the BCCI representing his state association. It has been seen that this rule has just been bypassed. This act of the franchisee has also created the disciplinary problems within their states,” viewed Pandove. |
