Man held with smack:
The police arrested a person with four gm of smack at a naka near Chakri Mohalla bypass on Wednesday. The police stopped a scooterist and found the contraband from him during checking. He revealed his identity as Tasim Singla, a resident of ward number 7, Bassi Pathana. He admitted that he was involved in the sale of drugs in the area. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him.

BATHINDA
Armymen pressed into service:
Army personnel were pressed into service to find out Surjeet Singh, a mason, who came under a huge mound of sand while deepening a bore well at village Peer Mohammad, near Makhu in Ferozepur district, yesterday. Harjinder Singh, another mason , who was also buried in sand, was taken out alive but died on way to the hospital.

Youth killed in accident:
One person was killed and two others were injured in a road accident near Lalru on Tuesday. According to information, a Haryana roadways bus rammed into a stationary truck near a factory at Lalru. The bus driver, Rampal Singh, and Balbeer Singh, a passenger, were injured while an unidentified youth was killed in the accident. The driver was referred to the GMCH, Chandigarh, in a critical condition. The body of the youth has been kept at the Civil Hospital at Dera Bassi.

MOHALI
Integrated campus:
The Gian Jyoti Group of Institutions has decided to spend Rs 100 crore in the sphere of education and will be setting up a state-of-the-art integrated campus near Banur as part of its expansion plans. JS Bedi, chairman of the group, said the investments would be done in a phased manner over the next three years. He said in the first phase an engineering college and a management institute would be set up at Shambu Kalan. The group would soon come up with an international institute offering programmes from leading international universities and colleges from North America, the UK and New Zealand, he added.

ZIRAKPUR
Theft:
Three sent to juvenile home: Three minor boys were caught stealing at a house in Harmilap Nagar on late Monday evening. They were produced at a juvenile court in Mohali on Tuesday and were sent to a juvenile home in Ludhiana. The accused were residents of Mauli Jagran. The complainant, Tarlochan Singh, said he had gone to meet his son in Panchkula, and when he returned, he found the boys stealing bathrooms taps. He nabbed them and informed the police. Meanwhile, in another theft incident, Manoj Kalia of Govind Vihar told the police that unidentified miscreants decamped with taps from his house on July 3.

Youth murdered:
A youth was butchered by some unidentified persons at Ellenabad town in this district today.The assailants threw his blood-stained body in the Sheranwali minor, a water course passing near the town. Passersby noticed the body in the minor and informed the police.The police later identified the body as that of Kalu, son of Pala Ram of ward 12 in the town.The body bore injury marks on the head, feet and arms.The police has registered a case of murder.
