...In Rajpura, Sirhind too
Rajpura/ Sirhind, July 4 The problem arose as most of the areas were bereft of separate rainwater pipes. The present narrow and insufficient sewage pipes led to over flowing. The situation grew more piquant, especially in the periphery of Rajpura, where sewers started overflowing. Villages of Baina, Haripur, Himmatgarh, Naraingarh, Panjoli and Matthi of Sirhind were affected since this afternoon. The potholed roads of these villages turned into a driver’s nightmare. With most of the potholes covered with water, commuters on the road could not make out exact location of the potholes. Similarly, in the areas of Mahavir Mandir, Bans Bazar, Shastri Market, Chhajju Majri, the Focal Point and Ekta Colony of Rajpura, the rainwater entered into shops. The shopkeepers had a tough time throwing out water and saving their belongings. Most of the shopkeepers kept their products on high shelves. Apprehending spread of water-borne diseases, the Health Department has asked people to use boiled water for drinking and cooking purposes. Meanwhile, at Samrala too, the first monsoon showers brought problems for villagers of Todpur. The vllage was flooded with around 5 feet water leading to loss of property. Even the fields were flooded with water. The people alleged that even the flood-control room established at the SDM office did not act. |
