CHANDIGARH Gurdaspur lad honoured: Punjab Defence Services Welfare Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan on Tuesday honoured Gurdaspur lad Lt Amanat Jagjit Singh, who recently passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and stood first in the order of merit in the Technical Graduate Course. The young officer passed out from the Academy on June 12 and outshined 103 cadets to won this highest award of his entry. Jalandhar Chetna camp: A three-day, Vidayarthi Chetna camp, concluded at the Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall here on Sunday. The camp is being organised every year during the summer vacations by the Desh Bhagat Yaddgaar Committee. Naunehal Singh, general secretary of the committee, said a lecture on the life of Baba Banda Bahadur was organised on the first day and eminent columnist Jatinder Pannu threw light on the life of the great warrior. A two-day session on a book, “Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State,” of Federik Engles was held on the second and third day. A session of theatre and cultural activities was held on the last day. Basketball tourney: The Air Force basketball championship began at Adampur Air Force Station here today. In the inaugural match, Western Air Command beat Maintenance Command by 18-16, 18-19, 21-10 and 23-15 baskets. While in another match of the day, Central Air Command crushed Eastern Air Command by 18-09, 26-04, 13-10 and 27-06 baskets. Eight teams of Air Force Headquarters, Western Air Command, Eastern Air Command, Central Air Command, South Western Air Command, Southern Air Command, Maintenance Command and Training Command are participating in the championship.
