Misuse of Citrus Council funds: The Punjab Government has decided that the matter of misuse of funds by the officers of the Council for Citrus and Agri Juicing and the Organic Farming Council would be probed by a team headed by Ishwar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana. The team has been directed to submit its report within two months.

Gurdaspur lad honoured: Punjab Defence Services Welfare Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan on Tuesday honoured Gurdaspur lad Lt Amanat Jagjit Singh, who recently passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and stood first in the order of merit in the Technical Graduate Course. The young officer passed out from the Academy on June 12 and outshined 103 cadets to won this highest award of his entry.

Telecom advisory
: The members of first Telecom Advisory Committee of Jalandhar SSA today raised the billing problem and language sequence problem on 198 number at the time of booking of a complaint. A meeting in this regard was held here today. The members also suggested that language sequence should be implemented as regional language, national language rather than in English. Committee chairman C.S. Bhanot assured to solve the problems at the earliest.

Chetna camp: A three-day, Vidayarthi Chetna camp, concluded at the Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall here on Sunday. The camp is being organised every year during the summer vacations by the Desh Bhagat Yaddgaar Committee. Naunehal Singh, general secretary of the committee, said a lecture on the life of Baba Banda Bahadur was organised on the first day and eminent columnist Jatinder Pannu threw light on the life of the great warrior. A two-day session on a book, “Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State,” of Federik Engles was held on the second and third day. A session of theatre and cultural activities was held on the last day.

Basketball tourney: The Air Force basketball championship began at Adampur Air Force Station here today. In the inaugural match, Western Air Command beat Maintenance Command by 18-16, 18-19, 21-10 and 23-15 baskets. While in another match of the day, Central Air Command crushed Eastern Air Command by 18-09, 26-04, 13-10 and 27-06 baskets. Eight teams of Air Force Headquarters, Western Air Command, Eastern Air Command, Central Air Command, South Western Air Command, Southern Air Command, Maintenance Command and Training Command are participating in the championship.

ST executive body announced
: The executive body of the District Taxation Bar Association (Sales Tax) was announced at a meeting held here today. Arun Kanwal was already elected as the president of the association a few days ago. Other office-bearers were appointed today. Vijay Magon, Ashok Chawla, Ravinder Garg, Ashwani Kochar and Vivek Sharma were included in the executive body of the association. Meanwhile, Ashish Thamman was appointed as its press secretary.

MALERKOTLA
Road blocked: The Malerkotla-Ludhiana Highway was jammed for about three hours by angry people protesting against the chocked sewerage of main Id Gah and Dera Baba Atma Ram road here on Tuesday. The residents staged a Dharna and raised slogans against the local administration. The committee members of Dera Baba Atma Ram also participated in the Dharna as the Dera is also situated on this road.

Nakodar
Smugglers nabbed
: The police nabbed two drugs smugglers, identified as Sarabjit singh and Mahinder Singh of nearby Mehatpur, while their third accomplice Satnam Singh managed to escape. The police has recovered 70 kg of puppy husks from their possession and impounded their scooter on which they were going towards Mehatpur.
