BSNL Colony residents rue lack of facilities
Patiala, May 9 They alleged that despite repeated requests, the department has failed to provide them basic facilities. The colony has 49 quarters. Jagtar Kaur Chahal, colony resident, and general secretary of the Mahila Congress, Punjab, said there was no sweeper and gardener in the colony due to which the condition of the parks and streets was deplorable. The residents have filed a complaint with the general manager of the BSNL, but to no avail. Tired of filing complaints, the residents have now started an everyday cleanliness drive for two hours in the morning. According to sources, the park in the colony was developed after investing Rs 3.5 lakh and the department has not provided even a single gardener for its upkeep. It’s even difficult to sit in the park now due to the wild growth and dirt that has accumulated in the park. Another building that requires immediate attention is the community centre that was constructed to hold functions, the sources added. The condition of the centre was so bad that the one, who hires it, has to work on each and everything again. “It’s because the community centre is locked most of the time. We have asked the department to turn it into a recreation building where kids could play some games in the evening, but no heed is being paid to this request as well,” added another resident. |
