Shops, house burgled: A house in Nai Abadi and two shops in Dharam Nagari were burgled last night, sources said. As per details, unidentified person escaped with ornaments and cash from the residence of Parkash Chander of Nai Abadi on Saturday.Man commits suicide: One Kashmir Singh reportedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in village Koni of Hindumalkot area last night, police sources said. The deceased was a frequent consumer of alcohol and is survived by six daughters and his wife, the police added. Shop owner, kin assaulted: Some unidentified persons attacked a sweetshop owner identified as Kewal Manchanda and his nephew Sunny Manchanda in the Bazaar Durga Dass area in the city. The shopkeepers went to the police station and were enraged when they noticed some attackers already present inside the police station. Later, they raised slogans against the police and demanded action against the culprits. DSP Joginder Singh tried to pacify the shopkeepers. Habit-forming drugs seized: In a joint inspection conducted by drug inspectors Kulwinder Singh and Karam Sachdeva of Jalandhar and
Kapurthala, respectively, at a medical store in Dilkhusha Market here, habit-forming drugs worth Rs 1.5 lakh were seized today. The raid was conducted on the premises of Mahalaxmi Medicos. Girl killed, father hurt: Aman Kaur (16) was killed while her father Bhola Singh was seriously injured when the cycle they were riding on was hit by a car near Chabal village, 18 km from here, this afternoon. Bhola Singh was admitted to a private hospital in Amritsar whereas the body of Aman was sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The driver of the car, who fled from the spot leaving the car behind, has been booked under sections 304A, 279, 427, 337 and 338 of the
IPC.
