Woman hacked to death at home

Mystery surrounds the murder of 47-year-old Inderjit Kaur, who was hacked to death at her Model Town Extension house here last evening. Prima facie it looked liked a case of robbery, but the weapon used in the crime has raised eyebrows since a kitchen knife was used to murder her.

ICICI ATMs short of cash most of the time

With most ICICI Bank ATMs in the city running out of cash most of the time customers of the bank face a great deal of harassment running from one machine to another. Eventually they are left with no option but to access their accounts from ATMs of other banks and incur an extra charge for the transaction.

Flying club to take off, finally

Robbers flee with truck
Ludhiana, April 8
Robbers struck at one of the busiest national highways in the region, NH 1, late last night and fled with a truck full of ironware worth Rs 10 lakh. The truck, which was being driven to the city by Lakshman Sharma, an employee of Juneja Castings of Jalandhar, was carrying ‘kulfi’ (ice-cream) moulds weighing over 33 tons. The driver was to deliver them at Jimco Industries, Dhandari Khurd, on the Delhi-Ludhiana highway.

Left lambasts govt over price rise

Unauthorised gate has residents fuming
Ludhiana, April 8
A gate installed illegally by certain residents of New Janta Nagar, Ludhiana. For the “convenience” of few, a group of residents of street No. 8, New Janta Nagar, Daba Road, have installed a gate on a public lane.The unauthorised blockade has irked area residents, who have been forced to take a detour to reach their destinations.
In spite of repeated complaints to the authorities concerned, the gate has not been removed.

A motorcyclist was run over by a truck near the Ishar Nagar bridge at Lohara village here this afternoon. The incident took place around 1 pm when the victim, Jagdev Singh (48), was returning home to Sangowal village after buying medicine.

Stage set for final, arrangements reviewed

The Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner reviews arrangements made for World Kabaddi Cup at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana The stage is set for the final of the inaugural edition of the Pearls World Kabaddi Cup slated to be held at Guru Nanak Stadium here on April 12. The arrangements made to conduct this mega event were reviewed at a meeting held here today at the conference hall of Guru Nanak Sports Complex, which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari, Ludhiana.

Re-carpeting of road in full swing
Ludhiana, April 8
The approach road to Guru Nanak Stadium being re-carpeted for the upcoming final of World Kabaddi Cup. Prior to the final of Kabaddi International, the work of re-carpeting of the road near Durga Mata Temple, Jagraon Bridge, is in full swing these days. Due to the ongoing repair work, the traffic jams have become a routine and commuters feel harassed due to blockade of the entire one side of the road by LMC workers and machinery.
