After coffee house, Pbi varsity to seal canteen
Patiala, April 6 Earlier, the authorities sealed the coffee house of the university after getting repeated complaints regarding conducting late night parties in the café. However, these complaints were found to be true and as a result the university sealed the café, which was the best in terms of sitting arrangement. Since then the students whose departments were next to the café have to go to far off canteens to eat something. The university authorities have not given the tender to anyone and the canteen is still closed. According to sources, the university was renewing the tender in which the rent of the canteen would also be increased. The canteen contractors said in case the rent would be increased, we would have to increase the prices, which would again make a dig in the pockets of students. Students have time and again complained regarding the food quality in canteens. They feel that these canteens are expensive while they get the same stuff from outside for lesser price. When questioned about food quality, the contractors said more rent sometimes lead to poor quality. Instead of increasing the rent, if the university asks us to provide better quality, it would be beneficial for us as well as the students. Dean, students’ welfare, Kulbir Singh Dhillon said it was a regular feature and there was nothing new. |

However, the victim had alleged she was repeatedly raped in Mumbai by the suspect and one of his relatives”, the sources added. The ossification test of the victim suggested her age was between 14 to 16 years. The victim’s age was also debated at the initial stage of the case and the test was conducted to leave nothing to doubt. Besides, the police had obtained the victim’s statement in the case recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, in which she had reportedly alleged she was raped by both the suspect and his relative, Gursharan Singh alias Pappu, a businessman in Mumbai. The victim had further claimed that the suspect made videos of her in which she was asked to accuse her parents of harassing her. She claimed Arora had shown the videos to her on his laptop and on a mobile phone. The investigators had sent the laptop as well as the cellphone to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) in Sector 36 to retrieve the incriminating videos, which the suspect is thought to have deleted. Later he offered to pay Rs 5,000 per month for moving the girl to Mumbai, to which the parents reportedly agreed. The complainant reported to the police that on her insistence Arora agreed to bring her back to the city last December. It was then that the girl disclosed she was raped by Arora at his Sector 34 home and also in Mumbai by him and his relative. Arora has a factory in Parwanoo where he manufactures ‘chapatti’ making machines. He is still in judicial remand. City boy to play in Junior World Golf
Chandigarh, April 6 He will be among eight junior golfers from Asia, who will be rubbing shoulders with the cream of world junior golf from 65 countries. Golfers below the age of 17 will be participating in the junior world event in six age-group categories. Aadil will tee off, along with 29 other golfers in the 9-10 age-category. Last year Aadil had qualified for the US Kids World Cup, but he did not participate in the same as he felt he still had a lot to improve. Initially, it was cold drinks and chips that drove this four-year-old to accompany his father to the CGA Golf Range. On one such visit he started hitting the ball with a small club. That was the beginning. He took to the game like a duck takes to water, says his father Harinder Singh Bedi. He took to serious golf and started participaitng on the Indian Golf Union (IGU) junior circuit at the age of six. Within a year he was ninth on the IGU junior merit list. He climbed up to sixth spot the following year. He occupied the top slot in the Albatross U-7 merit list in 2008. This nine-year-old has shaped into a budding golfer under coach Jesse Grewal. Coke and chips are things of the past for this promising golfer, who already has a dietician in Dr Satbir Singh and a physical instructor in Sukhwinder Singh. Harinder Bedi feels that playing in the competitive international arena will be a new experience for his son in terms of exposure and psychological build-up. CGA president CSR Reddy expressed his happiness over this development and said: “The Chandigarh Golf Association is committed to help this young golfer as far as training and equipment are concerned.” Asked about his studies and golf and how he manages the two, Aado replies: "Golf is papa's field and study is mom's arena. On days I practice golf, I do just homework. On other days I do revision work as well.” Aadil has already played in more than 30 golf courses and maintains a profile in his diary.
