Two injured in mishaps
: Behlol Kalan resident Jaspal Rai was injured when the car he was travelling in was hit a truck. He was referred to the PGI. In another accident, Jagdip Singh of Baleon village was injured when an unidentified vehicle hit him.

Projects reviewed
: Controller General of Defence Accounts Nita Kapoor yesterday reviewed the ongoing official and residential accommodation projects of the Defence Accounts Department. The projects are being undertaken under the jurisdiction of Principal Controllers of Defence Accounts of Northern Command, Western Command and the Air Force (Dehradun).

Elected: In the unanimous elections to elect office-bearers of Panjab University Stenographers’ Association, Dwarka Nath was elected as the chairman, while KG Grover was elected as the vice-chairman. Vinod Singh of Dr Harbansh Singh Dental College was elected as the secretary.

Roads closed: Vehicular traffic on the V3 road from junction 39 to Modern Bakery at Phase I, Industrial Area, and the V3 road from the Vigyan Marg-Chandi Path junction to the CGA golf course as the roads will be closed for recarpeting will be diverted from March 18 to 22.

Trains delayed: With various trains running behind schedule yesterday, the Delhi-Chandigarh-Kalka Shatabdi (2011), scheduled to arrive at 11:05 am, reached the Chandigarh railway station late by an hour and 10 minutes today. The Himalayan Queen (4095) also arrived over an hour behind its scheduled time of 10:27 am, according to railway sources.

Drive to check power theft
: The campaign launched by the UHBVN authorities to check power theft and recover arrears of bill amount from defaulting power consumers has brought positive results. This was stated by RS More, XEN (Kaithal division), here on Tuesday. He said the employees had detected as many as 20 power-theft cases in Sega, Shergarh, Deodkheri and Narar villages where the consumers had been drawing power by direct kundi connections.

1 held for suicide bid
: The Khol police has arrested one Anil Yadav (22), resident of Chhajiawas village of Mahendergrah district, on the charges of attempt to suicide to pressurise the parents of a teenaged girl to marry their daughter to him. Sources said when the girl’s mother resisted his overtures, Anil tried to misbehave with her. He was overpowered by the villagers and handed over to the police. He was on Wednesday produced in the court of JMIC Vievk Goyal, who remanded him to judicial custody. A case of attempt to commit suicide, molestation and criminal intimidation has been registered against him.

Woman killed in mishap: One person was killed and another injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a truck on the Dharuhera-Rewari road, near Jonawas village, near here on Tuesday. One Shanti Devi (50), resident of Delhi, died on the spot while her husband Mahabir Singh was injured in the mishap that took place when they were going to Tobda village near Ateli in Mahendergarh district.

Substation commissioned:
The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) on Sunday commissioned a 33 kV substation in Haripura village in this district at a cost of Rs 2.30 crore, a spokesman for the DHBVN said. He said a transformer of 10 MVA capacity had been set up at the substation, while provision for a second transformer had been made in case the need arose.

3 hurt as jeep hits train
: Three persons were seriously injured when their jeep hit against a speeding train - Ekta Express - at an unmanned level crossing near Rukhi village on the Gohana-Rohtak railway track on Tuesday night. The injured have been identified as Pawan and Shamsher of Garhi Sarai Namdar Khan village and Jagminder of Bhainswan village. A case has been registered against jeep driver Pawan. The injured have been referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak.

22-year-old raped: A 22-year-old girl of Jainpur village under Murthal police station was raped by two youths on Tuesday when she had gone to fields to collect paddy husk. Medical examination has confirmed rape and a case has been registered against the accused, who are absconding. One of them has been identified as Deepak of the same village. In her complaint, the victim has alleged that she was forcibly taken by the accused in a nearby wheat field and then assaulted.

Attempt to murder: The manager of Home Made Bakery unit near Hasanpur village - Yashodar Sharma - had a narrow escape when two of his employees fired at him on late Tuesday evening. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Murthal police station against the employees, identified as Lakhi and Manish. The accused reportedly had some altercation with him over wages.

NCC website launched:
An NCC website (wwwnccjandk.co.in) was launched yesterday by Brig Anil Gupta, Director- General, J&K, NCC, at the Group Headquarters in Srinagar. According to a statement issued here, through the website the Directorate attempts to bring transparency in its activities. The website has kindled an informative technological avenue for the youth of the country and especially those belonging to the state.

Army holds 8 medical camps
: The Army has organised eight medical camps in coordination with the civil administration at different places in the Kashmir valley since January this year. Besides rendering treatment to 2,409 men, 1,739 women and 1,507 children, the doctors advised the populace on preventive management of diseases, importance of health and hygiene and pre and post- natal care for mothers.

4 hurt in mishaps: At least four persons, including a child, were injured in different road accidents across the Kashmir valley since yesterday. A Tata Sumo hit and injured a child, Ayan Bashir, at Chetripora in Pulwama district, the police here said. A Tipper hit and injured a pedestrian at Bemina here. One Maruti car hit a motorcycle resulting in injuries to the motorcyclist and the pillion rider in the Ganderbal area.

Body recovered: The police recovered the body of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh from Butgund nullah in the Handwara area of Kupwara district on Wednesday. He drowned in the nullah on Monday.
