Armed robbery at Railway colony
24 men hold 11 persons captive before fleeing with booty
Jagraon, March 7
In a daring attempt, about 24-armed robbers attacked a small colony of the Railway employees and looted their belonging after overpowering them. This incident took place on the intervening night of March 6 and 7. The robbers armed guns and sharp edged weapons entered the house of the Railway employees situated beside the tracks between the Gagra and Sohian villages near the level crossing.

Residents stage dharna against brothel
Ludhiana, March 7
Tension prevailed at the Broata road after residents staged dharna against a woman for running a brothel. The residents were miffed after the Shimlapuri police registered a case against a few persons, who reportedly objected to the running of a brothel in their locality.

Shopkeepers flout building bylaws

In an utter violation of building bylaws, shopkeepers in the AC Market-Calibre Plaza near Bhadaur House- have converted the “parking” space in the basement into shops due to which traffic congestion and road rage have become the order of the day. Thanks to the callous attitude of the Municipal Corporation, which failed to enforce guidelines, nuisance and chaotic conditions continue to bother commuters.

‘Sadiyaan’ ready for release after scene cut
Mandi Ahmedgarh, March 7
A scene in the Hindi film ‘Sadiyaan’ in which its actors, Rekha and Rishi Kapoor, put ‘kadah prasad in each other’s mouth at the Golden Temple, Amritsar has been deleted, clearing the way for its release soon. The music for the movie is being launched on Monday in Mumbai.

Nano to cost more
Ludhiana, March 7
Tata Nano, the car of the masses, may no longer be cheap, after Tata Motors opens fresh booking later this year. Currently priced at Rs 1 lakh, the price may go up in the coming days. The possible buyers of this car are giving their decision to buy the car a second thought. The company official said they had held the price line for the first lot of Nano buyers but did not reveal the exact amount of the car after the hike.

5 booked for peddling poppy husk
Jagraon, March 7
The Sidhwan Bet police has booked five persons on charges of peddling poppy husk in the area. SHO Balbir Singh got a tip-off that gang members Sukhwinder Singh, Kuljit Singh, Gurcharan Singh, all of Khothe Sher Jang village, near here, Manjit Singh of Mohie village, near Sudhar, and Jaspal Singh of Barnala had been indulged in peddling of poppy husk for some time but had evaded detection.

Nine booked

Nine persons of Shingara Singh’s family, a resident of Toosa village, have been booked for encroaching upon the property of an NRI. Surjit Kumar of Toosa village had in a complaint lodged with the SSP alleged that he had purchased a plot from accused Shingara Singh in 1985. After purchasing the plot he carried out some construction activity and thereafter immigrated to Surry in Canada. When he returned to India, he was shocked to see that Shingara Singh along with his family had occupied his house and was living in it.

Over 50 aspirants attended the trials conducted by the Punjab Amateur Bodybuilding Association (PABA) at Dugri, here today. The trials were held to select the Punjab squad for the forthcoming Mr North India Championship slated to be held in Ludhiana on March 21 and Federation Cup scheduled to be conducted at Asansol in West Bengal on March 26 and 27.
