Rajpura hospital to get uninterrupted power
Tribune News Service

Rajpura, February 26
The Rajpura Civil Hospital would soon get hotline power connection as the health department has released Rs 13 lakh for the same.

Earlier, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) had prepared an estimate of Rs 13 lakh for providing hotline connection and consequently health department authorities released grant for the same.

However, PSEB officials have now asked health department officials to arrange a sum of Rs 15 lakh to get the hotline connection stating that the cost of project had increased. “We have assured PSEB officials to connect the hotline connection and rest of the amount would too be sanctioned after some time,” said a health official.

At present the hospital authorities have to depend on generators for power backup during the time of power cuts. “The emergency services at operation theatre get affected every time a power cut is imposed,” said a senior doctor at the Civil Hospital.

He said relatives of patients raised hue and cry whenever power cuts were imposed in the hospital. It took five to 10 minutes or sometimes even more than that to start the generator. In the meantime, patients were left with no option but to suffer.

The problem aggravates during summers when long power cuts disturb patients, especially those suffering from burns. “We badly need a hotline connection in the coming summers or once again patients and doctors will have to face same problem,” said senior medical officer Dr Bhupinder Singh.

He said the hospital had three generators, including one big and two small capacity ones. The small generators took five to 10 minutes to restore electricity, which was quite a nuisance for doctors.

Ranjit Bajaj files bail plea
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, February 26
Facing arrest in a case of attempt to murder, Ranjit Bajaj, son of a retired IAS couple, has moved an application for anticipatory bail in the local court here today. Additional district and sessions judge Sanjeev Jindal issued a notice to the state directing that the petition be placed before sessions judge on March 5.

Bajaj was booked by the district police under Sections 323, 307, 506, 295A and 34 IPC, for attempting to murder Gurmohan Singh Bedi, son of a high court judge. Gurmohan alleged that on January 29 Ranjit attempted to kill him in the parking lot of North Park Hotel, where a party of the St John’s Association was going on.

Bajaj, now in his petition, has alleged that the police had lodged the FIR after coming under the influence of some high-profile people.

He has also submitted affidavits of two security guards, who were deputed at the hotel at the time of the incident, along with three Sjoba members, who claimed that the scuffle lasted for a minute and no firearms were used.

In his petition, Bajaj said, “Under such circumstances, I could have shot at him, but did not do so, which clearly shows that I, along with my gunmen, had no intention to kill Gurmohan. Hence, no offence under Section 307 IPC had been committed,” contended Ranjit in his application.

Moreover, no legal action on the complaint of Henna Singh and Pahul proved the police inaction, alleged Ranjit.
