Complaint against depot holder
Fatehgarh Sahib,
February 21 “Our repeated pleas were turned down, we were left with no alternative but to lodge a complaint against the depot holder,” Balwinder Singh, a resident of Maheshpura village. Beneficiaries said there were about 60 blue card holders in the village, but the depot holder refused to give them wheat, cereals and other edibles. As per the government rules, card holders, living below poverty line and without a piece of land are to be provided ration at concessional rates at the village depots. The quantity of ration depends upon the number of members in each family. The beneficiaries rued that they were not aware of the exact quantity of ration released by the government, as the contractor had not displayed any information outside the depot. The depot holder, Kuldip Madaan, however, refuted the allegations, saying that villagers were trying to implicate him in a false case so that they could “grab” the ration depot. He said his family held the licence for running the ration depot for the past 25 years. Some villagers wanted to get his licence cancelled, he added. |

Regularisation of illegal colonies faces rough weather
Ambala, February 21 According to sources, municipal council had engaged the services of a private agency to conduct a survey of unauthorised colonies in pursuance of the policy of the state government. It is pertinent to mention here that some property dealers and promoters had developed a number of colonies. However, municipal council came down heavily on these colonies and demolished several houses that had come up in these colonies and also dug up roads in some colonies. But the exercise failed to deter the promoters and houses came up in large numbers. After some time residents of these colonies got some basic civic amenities from the municipal council and also got regular electricity connections. Prices of plots in these colonies began to rise steeply and some people bought plots with a view to sell them later. This led to speculation and there are a number of plots in each of these 70-odd colonies where some wealthy persons have stakes in the form of plots. When recently there were reports of a municipal corporation being formed for both Ambala Cantt and Ambala City, the work of regularisation of these unauthorised colonies was put on hold. It has been decided that the work of regularisation of these colonies would be taken up only after the municipal corporation was formed. |
