Bassi Pathana, February 10 The sources said discrepancies were found in the record of certain depot holders. The officials also raided certain private premises of suspects alleged to be involved in sale of kerosene in black. Paramjit Singh, assistant food and supply officer (AFSO), Bassi Pathana, said the department had tightened its noose against the depot holders and it would be ensured that kerosene was sold at the government rate. He said those found guilty would not be spared. He called upon the consumers to inform the department officials if someone sold kerosene in black. On the other hand the higher officials of oil companies raided the petrol pumps in the town and adjoining areas. They took the samples of diesel and petrol and conducted thorough checking. It was also suspected that kerosene was sold to certain petrol pump owners. What came out of checking could not be known as no official was available to talk to the media. Meanwhile, the Depot Holders’ Association held a meeting with the representatives of the Hindu Organisation and prominent citizens of the town. Basakha Singh, president, and Rajeev Bector, secretary of the association, assured them they would ensure that no depot holder indulged in black marketing of kerosene. |

7-yr-old injured in accident
Kharar, February 10 In her complaint to the police, the victim’s mother Smriti Srivastava stated that at 7 am she was taking her daughter to her auto-rickshaw when a speeding motorcycle hit the girl. The child suffered a fracture in the leg and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, and further referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. The child is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mohali. The police has registered a case. In yet another incidence, Sadhu Singh from Khalor village, Banur area, told the police that at 9 am he was going towards Morinda in his car. When he reached near Gharuan village a motorcyclist rammed into his car. The police has registered a case. |

Completion of bus stand to take another year
Patiala, February 10 The project was supposed to be completed within a period of 18 months, but things as they obtain today are indicating that the project may not see completion for another year now. A foundation stone and the boundary wall are all in the name of the new bus stand. Spread over 14 acre the new bus stand would have a six storey building. The ground floor would be used for the bus stand while the first floor would have commercial establishments. The new bus stand is located adjoining the Sadar Police Station on the Patiala-Rajpura highway. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, managing director of the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation, yesterday said all paper work with regard to execution of the work had been completed. The project was scheduled to be completed in a phased manner and the first phase was to have been executed within 17 months. He said the private firm which would execute the project had paid an initial amount of Rs 27 crore to the PRTC as lease money for 20 years lease. He said it was a built operate transfer
(BOT) project and the firm would pay a yearly fee of Rs 1.25 crore every year to the
PRTC. There is a component of 5 per cent increase in the fee Sidhu said the project was delayed as the private firm had been given actual possession of the land in October. He said if there was any delay in the execution of the project from October beyond 17 months, the firm would face penalty. |

Patiala, February 10 Focussing on the need to check drug addiction among youth, he said the health department, the police department and people should work together in order to check this evil. The departments concerned must fulfil their duties and action would be taken against the defaulters, he added. Civil surgeon Shyam Lal Mahajan (CMO), informed the minister that in order to check drug abuse, the department had raided various shops and confiscated 2,06,726 capsules, 8,66,000 tablets, 22,632 injections and 1,046 syrups. They had also taken samples of 15 medicines and registered cases against seven shopkeepers. Also in a complaint against encroachments, the minister directed the district authorities to take immediate action. In order to provide more buses from Patiala to Nabha, he said the secretary of the regional transport authority would be called in the next meeting and issue would be resolved. Answering a complaint regarding the cleaning of Patiala rivers, DC Deepinder Singh said the bigger river had been cleaned under the NREGA scheme and provisions for the smaller river would also be made soon. In the end, the minister instructed the officials to conduct Grievance Redressal Committee meetings every month to resolve issues at the earliest. |

Patiala, February 10 Meenakshi clinched four gold medals in the individual all-round artistic In the rhythmic gymnastics event, Anita Ramola won four gold medals, while Kiranjeet Kaur bagged a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal. Principal of the college Dr Satish Kumar Bhardwaj, and Dr Rashpaul Singh, chairman of the College Sports Committee, congratulated players and appreciated their efforts. Meenakshi has also won a gold medal and three silver medals in the gymnastics senior nationals, while Kiranjeet clinched a silver medal in the same event. |

Ambala, February 10 Dr Dev Raj Gupta, a senior functionary of the DAV organisation, was the chief guest on the occasion. A warm welcome was extended to the chief guest. The meet began with a march past followed by physical training and dumbbell demonstration Students presented a dance. Boys danced to the tune of “De Dana Dan”. Graceful whirling and spinning movements of students mesmerised audience. Tiny tots also gave a performance. Chairman of the school Rajender Nath motivated students to take part in cultural activities. Principal Karnail Singh read out the annual report and enlisted the achievements of the school. Laptop stolen from car
Chandigarh, February 10 Injured
Jatinder Kumar of Sector 39 lodged a complaint with the police against an unknown driver of a Jeep after the vehicle hit the motor cycle (CH0 3K 7064) of the victim near community center of Sector 40 today. The driver of the Jeep sped away after the accident. The victim was injured and admitted to the PGI. A case has been registered. In another case, Gulzar Singh of Sector 33 lodged a complaint with the police alleging that Bharam Parkash, a resident of Sector 3, hit the complainant’s scooter (CH 03 Z 3043) with his car (CH 01 Z 7857) on Monday. A case has been registered.
Robbery
Rajesh of Raipur Kalan reported to police alleging that Rajinder, a resident of Sector 17, Panchkula, and an unidentified person robbed him of his wallet containing Rs 500 and documents at Mauli Jagran yesterday. Rajinder has been arrested while other the other accused is at large. A case has been registered.
Theft
Sanjeev Kumar of Sector 29 reported to police alleging that his three-wheeler (PB 12 G 4709) was stolen from his residence on the intervening night of February 8 and 9. In another incident, Avtar Singh of Sector 41 reported to the police that water meter was stolen from his residence on the intervening night of February 8 and 9. Also, Ashwani Verma of Sector 56 lodged a complaint with the police alleging that 18 gold rings, 10 pair tops, a pair of gold kara and 150 nose pins were stolen from his jewellery shop at Palsora village on the intervening night of February 8 and 9. Three cases of theft have been registered.

ASI held guilty of sodomy
Chandigarh, February 10 The police had arrested assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Dalwinder Singh, posted at the police station-26 at the time of the incidence for allegedly sodomising a teenager at his Sector 20-house on November 28, 2008. He was bailed out after one month. In his complaint, the victim had alleged that he was sitting at a bus queue shelter in Sector 30 when the ASI came on a motor cycle around 10.30 pm and forced him to sit on the bike. The ASI threatened to shoot him if he did not follow his orders. The ASI later dropped the victim at his house around 4.15 am. The parents of the victim approached the police an hour after the incident, when the boy disclosed it to them. A case under Sections 342, 377 and 506 of the IPC was registered against the ASI. |

Rs 25,000 stolen from gurdwara
Mohali, February 10 According to reports, the thieves entered the gurdwara around 3.30 am after breaking a windowpane. They then broke the golak lying in the main hall and another lying in the langar hall to lay their hands on the cash. The CCTV camera installed on the premises captured the theft scene, the footage of which had been handed over the police. It is suspected that three persons were involved in the crime who had entered the building with muffled faces. It is reported that the management of the gurdwara had failed to keep a watchman even when such a proposal was cleared at a meeting of the management committee. The police is investigating the matter. |

GNPS-36 lift inter-school trophy
Chandigarh, February 10 Batting first, Satluj Public School failed to face the tight line and length bowling of GNPS bowlers and were bundled out for 102 runs in 17.2 overs. Ankush Dhariwal was the only batsman who faced the GNPS bowlers with some courage and scored 22 runs. None of the other batsmen could hold on to their wicket and went out cheaply. In reply, GNPS-36 had no problem in achieving the target, as they scored 104 runs for the loss of three wickets in 18.4 overs. Vinoop, who was declared man of the match, was the top scorer for his team with 36 runs, including two fours and one six. The winners walked away with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 21,000, while runners-up Satluj Public School got a cash prize of Rs 11,000. The second runners-up APJ Kharar won a cash prize of Rs 5,100. Former Indian Cricket player Dinesh Mongia gave away prizes to the winning team. Three individual prizes were also awarded. Anil Sihag was declared man of the series, Pankaj Rawat was declared the best batsman, while Ashok Saini won the best bowler award. Hema clinches two golds

Chandigarh, February 10 Hema, who is a student of MA English in DAV College, Sector 10, represented India during the South Asian Games held in Bangladesh from January 28 to February 9. While addressing mediapersons here today, she claimed that poor infrastructure at the venue of the games affected the performance of Indian shooters. She said they had practiced at the Electronic Shooting Range in Pune for about one month, while in Dhaka they were supposed to aim at manual targets. However, she added that out of the 29 medals, they had won 23 medals for the country. Earlier, too, Hema, who is also a member of Indian Shooting Core Group for Commonwealth games, had represented the country in Grand Pix Tournament held in Germany, besides participating in the Open Shooting Championship held at Czech Republic. She won a bronze medal in Sardar Sajjan Singh Memorial Masters National Tournament in August last year. She also bagged a gold and a bronze in Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting at Pune in September. Meanwhile, Dr BC Josan, principal of the college, announced a cash prize of Rs 11,000 for her achievement. He also congratulated Dr Amanendra Mann, professor in charge. |
Tae kwon do meet on Feb 14

Tae kwon do Association, said players from various parts of the district would
participate in the championship. The weighing in would start at 8 am on the same day, he added. Billa said Satpal S Rahal, tech-director of the association, would supervise the technical matters of the
championship and those selected would be eligible to participate in the forthcoming Stateand National Tae kwon do Championship. |
WFI trials for youth olympics qualifier on Feb 18
Chandigarh, February 10 Darshan Lal, secretary, CWA, said the Wrestling Federation of India would conduct trials at the Sports Authority of India Centre in Sonepat on February 26 and 27. The probables would be picked up for the Youth Olympic Games Qualifier at Tashkent (Uzbekistan) from April 31 to May 2. He said the competitions would be held for boys and girls in the following weight categories: Boys (freestyle): 46 kg, 54 kg, 63 kg, 76 kg, 100 kg. Greco-Roman: 42 kg, 50 kg, 58 kg, 69th kg, 85 kg. In the girls section competitions will be held in (freestyle): 46 kg, 52 kg, 60 kg and 70 kg. Last date of sending entries to the Wrestling Federation of India in New Delhi is February 20 and added that the Youth Olympic Games would be held in Singapore from August 14 to 26. |
