Apology for emergency ward
Rajpura, January 31 The PWD officials, on the condition of anonymity, said the doctors at the hospital had declared the building unsafe on their own. The hospital authorities said entire structure of the building was deteriorating for the past many years and they were forced to shift the ward into the yoga hall. The PWD officials said the building could have been repaired around two years ago with a minimum expenditure. However, the doctors had decided to lock it as the situation worsened during rainy season when water seeped through the roof of the building. The officials said the building developed big chinks due to continuous seepage of water from its roof. Water also entered into the pillars of the building which further tilted the building towards one direction. The doctors demanded that a new building should be constructed for an emergency ward so that patients could be treated properly. “We manage to accommodate patients in this ward which was earlier used as an emergency ward many years back. However, if a new building comes up the situation will improve surely,” said senior medical officer Dr Bhupinder Singh. He said a proposal had been sent in this connection to higher authorities who had assured to look into the
matter. The doctors said earlier a section of Rajpura residents had been practicing yoga in the hall wherein some patients too used to join them. However, the practice discontinued and the building was again converted into the emergency ward. Thousands of patients visited the Civil Hospital every month beside emergency cases from Rajpura and adjoining villages. Now with the number of accidents increasing everyday it was quite difficult to treat patients in the yoga hall, said the doctors. |

Work starts at Charan Ganga stadium
Anandpur Sahib, January 31 Last year in July, the drainage department had undertaken the work of widening the rivulet, which apparently reduced the area of Charan Ganga stadium that is frequented by the Nihang organisations, especially on the occasion of Hola Mohalla. The stadium is also of historical importance as Guru Gobind Singh had walked over the place. The move drew flak from Nihang organisations that protested the move pressurising government to stop the work. Nihangs had observed that the stadium’s area was lessened to accommodate widening and channelisation of the rivulet. Instead of mooting a project for augmentation of existing infrastructure at the stadium, it was destroyed. Intervening in the matter, advisor to the Chief Minister Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema asserted to Nihang organisations that the stadium would be restored to its original plan. The Nihang bodies then gave an ultimatum till January 5 expiring which they decided to pick up the spade and mend the stadium themselves. The deadline was extended to February 10 on assertion from Takht Sri Kesgarh Jathedar Giani Tarlochan Singh. The present work is being executed from the Rs 105-crore funds earmarked to Anandpur Sahib from the Centre government. |
