Residents resent proposed hike in water rates
Bassi Pathana, December 30 The council through an advertisement in a vernacular daily had sought objections in this regard before implementing it. Hindu organisation representing the residents has lodged strong objection with the Executive Officer of the council terming it as fleecing of the residents and demanded immediate withdrawal of the resolution or to get ready to face the agitation. Releasing the copy to media persons, Manoj Banda Gen. Secy. has mentioned that Bassi Pathana is a "C" class council and the existing rates of drinking water supplied by the council is Rs.110 per tap per month, where as the neighbouring councils Mandi Gobindgarh having "A" class status and Sirhind having " B" class status are charging Rs.30/- and Rs.50/- per tap per month. He said council is already charging more than double and now again want to increase the rates. He alleged that council has started forcible recovery of water supply bills, where as so many areas of the town including Chakri, Dhobian, Jarkhelan mohallas and GuruNank Pura have not been getting water supply since long because the water tubell meant to supply water in these areas could not be made operational from the last 4 years due to paucity of funds. He said the previous Congress Govt. had waived the water supply and Sewerage bills but the council is also recovering the bills of that period. The widows, below poverty line people and terrorist affected are not being spared. The organisation has urged the state government to withdraw the proposed hike in water rates, otherwise the residents will start an agitation. When contacted Kulbhushan Malhotra, council president, he said that existing rates are higher than the neighbouring council because these rates were implemented by the outgoing Congress backed president. He said now they have passed resolution as per the direction of the Govt. He said they have written to Govt. not to increase the rates but no one heeds to them. |

With the next date in the case on January 8 for framing of charges, the case seems to be on the right path of justice. While it has been over a year that Cash at Judge’s Door Scam was unearthed and had taken everyone by shock when Rs 15 lakh was misdelivered at the house of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the clerk of a Haryana law officer on August 13, 2008.
