Following a crackdown on plying of auto-rickshaws in the city, large number students and their parents were put to considerable inconvenience as autos remained off roads today.
Nearly half the population of the schoolchildren commutes to the schools by auto-rickshaws, hundreds of which were today fined and impounded by the police during the drive.
Plots’ transfer under power of attorney
Strict norms irk property dealers, create ruckus

A group of property dealers, apparently irked over strict verification norms for transferring plots in power of attorney cases, created ruckus and obstructed the proceedings of the function, organised by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust here today. The move was to hand over documents for the registration of title deeds of plots and properties in colonies developed by the Trust to nearly 100 applicants.

Fellowship for CMC cardiologist

Dr Rajneesh Calton, professor and head of cardiology department at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, was awarded the fellowship of the Cardiological Society of India (FCSI) at the recently held Annual Conference of Radiological Society of India at Kochin. Dr Calton is the only cardiologist from the state who has been awarded this fellowship in 2009.

Former kabaddi player arrested

The Ludhiana Rural police claims to have solved a poppy husk smuggling racket with the arrest of a youth against whom numerous cases are pending in the court. He has been on the run after cases were registered against him. Gurmail Singh, alias Gurpreet Singh of Gobind Basti near Bhadaur in Barnala district, the accused, was a well-known kabaddi player in his times. He had represented Punjab from 1998 to 2002 but abandoned the game when he started peddling poppy husk in 2003.
