Delhi-based man commits suicide
Zirakpur, December 20 The police said from the preliminary investigations it seemed to be a clear case of suicide, but they were also working on other theories behind the incident. The deceased was identified as Inder Batra who was residing in Harmilap Nagar for the last three years. He was running a business of banner and stationary printing in the Industrial Area, Phase-II, in Panchkula and was reportedly incurring loses in his business for the past few months. He also owned a factory in Delhi, the police added. “Batra’s family, his wife and two sons, lives in Delhi. He had cordial relations with them and they used to visit him at regular intervals,” said the police. Batra’s manager Rajiv received a call from the deceased’s wife Santosh Batra from Delhi around 9.45 am today. She said her husband was not responding to her phone calls and requested Rajiv to visit the house. On reaching the house Rajiv found it bolted from inside and thereafter he informed the police and other people of the locality. Later, people broke the door open and found Batra hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan. The police did not find any suicide note from the spot. Rajiv informed the police that for the past some time Batra was bearing losses in the business and that could have been the reason for him taking such an extreme step. The police shifted the body for postmortem at Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. The deceased’s family members reached Zirakpur late this evening, the police said. The police has initiated inquest proceedings and the postmortem report
is awaited. |

Patiala, December 20 Even the residents of the area have strongly objected to this construction which is right in the centre of residential area and its wall touches the wall of the school. The teachers and residents alleged that councillor Sunita Gera had a personal interest behind this project. As per records, the school was established in 1955 and currently its strength was around 2,000. “The venue of the marriage palace is very close to the school and it will surely affect the working of the school. Loud music and orchestras will not only disturb the teachers but would also distract the students and affect their studies,” says one of the teachers of the school. “It would not only hamper the peace of our home, but would also spoil the atmosphere. The programmes sometimes continue till late nights, which is intolerable,” said one of the residents. Gera, when questioned about the location of the palace, said: “There was no other suitable venue. That is why we chose this area. As far as the studies of students were concerned, we will try not to disturb them. I have chosen this venue in consultation with senior leaders.” However, Deputy Commissioner Deepinder Singh said he was unaware of the construction and would mark an inquiry. |
