‘Ragging under control’
: A meeting of the district-level anti-ragging committee was held here under the presidentship of ADC (D) Shruti Singh on Friday. Members of various educational institutions took part in the meeting and informed the ADC (D) that no fresh case of ragging had been reported from any student. During the meeting, the ADC (D) instructed the participants that telephone numbers of the police control room and anti-ragging committee should be prominently displayed at every college and hostel. The SDM, Talwandi Sabo, was also present at the meeting.

BKU leader’s arrest flayed: Condemning the arrest of former state president of the Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), Surjit Singh of Phul, activists of various farmers and employees unions staged a joint dharna at the Phul courts complex here on Saturday. Surjit Singh was arrested on November 17 from the sub-divisional courts of Rampura Phul on the charge of spreading Naxalite movement in the state.

: Campaigning ends in twin dists:The district magistrates have ordered that there will be no sale or distribution of liquor/wine in Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Suratgarh towns for the next 48 hours.The Excise and Taxation department and police officials have been directed to implement the dry-day orders strictly as the campaigns for the Municipal Council elections came to an end by 5 pm today.All the police stations have been directed to ensure night patrolling besides escorting the polling parties to avert untoward happenings.The Sriganganagar MC expects multi-angular contest for the direct election of the president on Monday.

Jaat rally on Feb 8
: National spokesman for the Akhil Bharatiya Jaat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti Commandant Hawa Singh Sangwan (retd) said a national-level rally would be held to press for their demand of reservation in New Delhi on February 8. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said the decision to hold the rally was taken at a meeting in Meerut on November 12. He said the samiti was reconstituted and Chaudhary Yashpal Malik was nominated as national president.

2 govt employees killed
: Two employees of the Provident Fund Department died when the motorcycle they were riding on reportedly collided with a truck on the Faridabad-Gurgaon road here on Friday. The two were stationed at the Gurgaon unit of the department. The incident took place when the duo was returning home after finishing their duties. The two have been identified as Manmohan and Sunil Bhardwaj. The driver of the truck escaped after the incident.

Khali to visit Tihar Jail
: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion Dalip Singh Rana, alias Khali, will participate in a programme to be held in the Tihar Jail complex in New Delhi on November 23, following an invitation extended by BK Gupta, Director General of Jails, Delhi. The information was released to mediapersons here today by Amit Swami, spokesman and PR Manager of Khali. He said the invitation said many prisoners in Tihar Jail were great fans of Khali. Swami also said Khali would participate in several programmes in Rewari on November 24.

Students damage bus
: A large number of students reportedly damaged a Haryana Roadways bus after it seriously injured a student of SD Senior Secondary School at the Jagadhri bus stand here on Saturday. The incident took place when a class XI student, Vicky, was standing at the bus stand. The students, who were also waiting for the bus, pelted it with stones. The injured student was admitted to a private hospital.

MC recovers Rs 37,000 as rent from allottees: While intensifying the drive for recovery of rent, the revenue staff of the Municipal Corporation on Saturday recovered Rs 37,000 from municipal allottees. Land, building and ground fee has been taken from the municipal allottees of Krishna Nagar, Chand Nagar New Post Office, Satwari, and the Nai Basti area. The Commissioner of the MC has appealed to the municipal allottees to pay their rent on time.

Action in Rajnish’s custodial  death sought: Demanding a stern action against the culprits, members of the Mahila Samrakshan Samiti appealed to MLA’s and ministers of the province to take up the matter of Rajnish’s custodial death with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The members of the samiti on Saturday served a 15-day ultimatum on the MLA’s and ministers and warned them that if they failed to do so, then they would “ghearow” the residence of the Chief Minister.

Encroachment on land for migrants flayed: The All Parties Migrant Co-ordination Committee on Saturday condemned fresh encroachment on land for migrants at Avil village of Kulgam district. According to a statement issued here, APMCC chairman and Apex Committee member Vinod Pandit appealed to Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla to intervene into the matter immediately

Militant supporter held: A joint column of the Rashtriya Rifles and the special operation group of the police on Friday arrested a suspected over-ground worker (OGW) at Maniyarwal of Poonch district. The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Quiyyum of Bakori. He was later handed over to the Kandi police station.

Fine recovered: The Transport Department recovered a fine worth Rs 2 lakh from law violators on Saturday. The Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, along with Assistant Regional Transport Officers and Motor Vehicle Inspectors checked various vehicles on the National Highway-1A from Satwari to Samba, Ghagwal. As many as 16 violators were challaned.

Intoxicants banned: In view of Guru Manyo Granth Chetna Samagam at Dablehar tehsil in RS Pura from November 23 to 25, Jammu Additional District Magistrate Rajinder Singh under the powers vested upon him under Section 144 CrPC has imposed a ban on the sale of intoxicating items such as cigarettes, beedi and liquor etc. during the samagam period in the Dablehar area.
