Grants for disability
rehab centre
Bathinda, November 18 The centre benefits the disabled persons of Malwa belt. The renovated and furnished centre was inaugurated on January 13, 2008, by the deputy commissioner and the president of District Red Cross Society, Rahul Tewari. However, after some months, the centre started facing financial crisis. Due to this, even salaries to the staff could not be paid for several months during the last financial year. Non-payment of salaries reportedly compelled some staff of the centre to leave their jobs, which led to the closure of the centre. Confirming the sanction of grant, an official dealing with the matters relating to the centre told The Tribune today that the centre would receive it within a week. He said Rs 1.5 lakh would be utilised for releasing pending salaries of the employees. He added that the staff (Physiotherapist, technician), who had left their jobs, had also been asked to join their duties. Meanwhile, the remaining sanctioned posts of moulder and speech therapist were being advertised. On behalf of the centre, the Department of Women and Child Development (Social Security branch), Punjab, recently wrote a letter to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi, seeking grant-in-aid of Rs 1.63 crore for the year
2009-10 under the scheme for purchase/fitment of aids/appliances. The aids and appliances include artificial limbs, calipers, tricycles, wheel chairs, crutches, hearing aids. |
Graft charges
Moga, November 18 Punjab DGP PS Gill dismissed both of them from service under Article 311(2)(b) of the constitution of India, late in the evening on Wednesday. Earlier, they were suspended from the service by the SSP, last evening. However, they were yet to be arrested at the time of writing the news report. A few days back, head constable Jaswinder Singh posted in the Baghapaurana police station of the district was also dismissed from the service for
his alleged connivance with narcotic smugglers. A spokesman of the Punjab police while claiming that the drive against narcotic smugglers would continue
said that any black sheep colluding with anti-social elements would not be spared. As per the details available, an FIR has been registered against the SHO on the directions of the SSP Ashok Bath under sections 409, 221, 120-B of the IPC and sections 7, 13(2) and 88 of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Kot-ise-Khan police station, last evening. The investigation has been handed over to Gurdarshan Singh, the DSP of Dharamkot area. As per the FIR, the SHO has been allegedly accused of taking a bribe of Rs 5.50-lakh from two drug smugglers Chuhar Singh and Karaj Singh, both residents of Daulewala village for helping them to run away from the spot on September 5, 2009 when he stopped a truck during a 'naka' from which 32 bags of poppy husk were recovered by him. The owner and driver of the truck were arrested from the spot while two others ran away from the spot. However, the SSP in the FIR against the SHO claims that Hastir recovered 40 bags of poppy husk instead of 32 bags from the truck and allegedly took Rs 5.50-lakh from Chuhar Singh and Karaj Singh who were also travelling on the same truck to run away from the spot. When contacted, Rajesh Hastir denied all the allegations and said that the DSP himself was present on the spot during the 'naka' at that time and he had put in his signatures on all the papers related to the recovery of poppy husk from the truck. "I had merely assisted the DSP in the naka," he said. He further said that actually 32 bags of poppy husk were recovered, which had been shown in the FIR and all records related to the case file. "The owner and driver of the truck were also interrogated in the interrogation centre at Amritsar where also 32 bags of poppy husk had been shown in the official record," he added. Further, adding that he had been framed in a fabricated case on the complaint of the two accused persons already wanted by the police, Hastir alleged that he had become victim of a deep-rooted controversy of the powerful lobby of drug smugglers who had manipulated with higher-ups in the police under the influence of certain politicians in power. Meanwhile, additional SHO of Kot-ise-Khan police station Sajjan Singh has been asked to officiate as SHO till further orders. The SSP office had not issued any orders of a regular posting of the SHO at the time of writing the news report as confirmed from the district police control room. |
