Annual function held:
Blooming Buds School here celebrated the Children’s Day-cum-annual function on Friday. The highlight of the programme was two skits presented by children on female foeticide and anti-drugs. Nishi Garg, wife of Anil Garg, SDM, Talwandi Sabo, gave away the prizes.

Cricket trial: The cricket trial on Sunday is for under-16 and under-19 age-group, the Bathinda District Cricket Association has clarified. 

Poster-making: To make children aware of the harmful effects of polythene, St. Xavier’s School held a poster-making contest on Friday. Father Ivo Dias exhorted the students to participate in the event. 

Contests at SSD College: An array of competitions were organised at the SSD Girls’ College on Friday in the Dr Walaiti Ram Memorial Auditorium of the college. A lecture on HIV/AIDS, poster-making competition, painting competition, blood donation and an English essay competition were among the contests conducted.

Road safety panels
: The state government on Friday issued a notification establishing district road safety committees. The Chief Minister issued directions for the constitution of the committees that will be headed by the DC and include SSP, ADC, chief medical officer, superintending engineer of the PWD (B&R), district education officer, a principal of a local college to be nominated by the DC. Representatives of two NGOs and five eminent persons will also be nominated by the government.

Mobile vet dispensaries: The state government has decided to press in 20 mobile veterinary dispensaries to provide on-the-spot treatment to cattle. A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday. Badal constituted a seven-member committee under the chairmanship of Chairman of the Punjab State Farmers’ Commission GS Kalkat to give recommendations for the services of mobile dispensaries in the state.

Medical camps: About 28,000 patients were given free treatment in medical check-up camps, organised by the Health and Family Welfare Department on the eve of former Prime Minister Late Jawahar Lal Nehru’s birthday. The Department of Ayurveda organised free health check up camps and Ayurvedic medicines were given free of cost to schoolchildren who were suffering from anaemia.

Body found
: The body of an unidentified man was found yesterday from near the Civil Hospital. Some passersby informed the police about the body in the wee hours today. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for identification.

One held with pirated CDs
:The police has arrested a person for selling pirated music CDs and video DVDs. The police raided a stall of Dharam Pal at Agwar Gujjran and arrested him along with 224 MP3 and 106 DVDs of various films. The accused is reported to be in this trade since long. Gurdarshan Singh Bhullar of B4U Copyrights and Productions, Mumbai, approached the police and raided the stall.

College magazine released:
A lecture was organised at AS College by AS Minhas Memorial Forum. College principal RS Jhanji informed about the monthly activities of the college and a college magazine “Campus Beat” was also released. Various educationists and scholars touched upon the life of AS Minhas and also discussed about various theories of Minhas on Indian economy.

Dairy training institute
: Minister of Dairy Development Gulzar Singh Ranike on Thursday inaugurated an ultra-modern dairy training and extension centre at Gill village in the district. The centre would cater to the needs of Moga, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar and parts of Bathinda and Barnala districts. It has a dairy farm, milk testing laboratory, three classrooms, laboratory, facility of artificial insemination, multi-media projector, hostel and an information centre.

: Sabhyacharak Chetna Munch, Mansa, distributed warm clothes to girl students of 14 primary schools to mark Children's Day. 

Sangrur
3 held for bid to loot ATM:
Within less than a week after dacoits made an attempt to loot cash from an ATM in the Dhuri area near here, the police has arrested the three accused. Sources said the police had arrested three dacoits believed to be the same persons who had made an unsuccessful attempt to loot the cash from State Bank of Patiala ATM at Dhuri on November 7, 2009 and on failing to get the cash had vandalised the room housing the machine in the wee hours. The accused are Jasraj Karan Singh Sohi, Navi and Sourabh Chabbra, all from the Dhuri area. Police sources claimed that all three accused were drug addicts. A case has been registered. —

Transfers after March
: The Haryana government has decided that the general transfers of its employees would be done after March 2010. An official spokesman said here today that employees were advised not to visit their head offices for their transfers.

NARNAUL
Ambulance service
: In order to providing better health services in rural areas, 14 new ambulances will be launched in the district under the Rural Health Mission. Deputy Commissioner A Sri Niwas will launch the service at the Civil Hospital here on Saturday. A departmental official said the ambulance service would be run by the Red Cross Society, Narnaul, and a control room for it had been set up on the hospital premises. The facility could be called in for emergency services by dialing toll free number 102. He said the service would be free for expecting women, BPL families and road rage victims.

REWARI
Held for assault
: The police has arrested Rohtash, a resident of Dalanwas village of Mahendragarh district, who reportedly injured a woman and looted her purse containing cash and a mobile phone in Shiv Colony here on Thursday. Rohtash was on Friday produced in the court of the Chef Judicial Magistrate, who remanded him in 14-day judicial custody. The police also recovered the stolen purse from him.

SONEPAT
Placement activities
: The Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal, has become the first university in Haryana to take its entire placement activities online. The university’s Registrar, RK Arora, and the Chief Executive Officer of CoCubes.com, Harpreet Grover, signed an MoU in this regard on Thursday. Vice Chancellor Dr HS Chahal said with this facility, the students would get better placement and save time and money by using the online facility. 

BSNL broadband: All localities in urban and rural areas of the district had been covered under the broadband service by the BSNL, said General Manager of Sonepat telecom district NK Goyal while addressing mediapersons here on Friday. “There has been 92 per cent increase in broadband subscribers and 47 per cent in mobile customers in the district during the last financial year,” he said, claiming that Sonepat had taken lead over other districts in the Haryana telecom circle in this field.

Screening test rescheduled:
The screening test for 10 plus two lecturers in physics, zoology and political science has been postponed.It was scheduled to be held on November 29. According to a notice of the Public Service Commission, the test would now be held on December 13. 

Hideout busted: Security forces on Friday busted a militant hideout in the Tindura area, 8 km from Surankot. One radio set, 35 rounds of ammunition, 13 rounds of loose ammunition, one AK magazine, 26 rounds of AK ammunition, three Chinese grenades and other items were recovered from the hideout. 

Compensation distributed: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla said on Thursday that the coalition government was working out a comprehensive plan for ensuring proper rehabilitation of 1947 displaced families of PoK. He also distributed compensation worth Rs 27.50 lakh for land deficiency among 26 displaced families of Rohi Morh at Lower Gaddigarh.
