Bassi Pathana, November 13 The beneficiaries are the worst hit and they are running from pillar to post to get the benefits. Government officials too are not giving them proper guidelines, alleged Sukhdev Singh Libra, MP, while talking to mediapersons here today. He said he had written to CP Joshi, Union Urban and Rural Development Minister, that the Union and the state government, in the ratio of 75 per cent and 25per cent, were sharing the funds of the Indira Awaas Yojna and the SGSY scheme. The Union government had released its share of 75 per cent for the year 2009-2010, whereas, the state government had not yet released its share of 25 per cent. He said he had urged the Union minister to direct the state government to release the funds, so that the people for whom the schemes were made got the benefit. Lashing out at the state government he said it had failed on all fronts, every section of the society was annoyed with its working. The state had no funds for the development and it was paying the salaries of its employees through loans. He said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was not concerned about the state and its poor people. |

Three held for thefts
Kharar, November 13 As per the police, they had broken into four shops in the area on November 8 and ran away with valuable goods. Thereafter, the area shopkeepers made a complaint to the police about the theft. They stated that they had hired a watchman Suresh Bahadur few days ago. Along with his accomplices, he broke into four different shops and stole Rs 11, 000 cash, two mobile phone sets, television set, fan and other valuables. During the investigation, the police arrested Nepal residents Lal Bahadur, Dhan Bahadur and a Bihar resident Akhilesh. The police has recovered four color televisions, two DVD players, four ceiling fans, gas cylinders, gas stoves and two sharp-edged weapons from their possession. The main accused, Suresh Bahadur, is absconding. The arrested accused were presented before the court. |

Two killed in road mishap
Bassi Pathana, November 13 According to information, Ashok Sood, former president of Municipal council, Sirhind, had solemnised the marriage of his daughter in, Landran, last night. His son, Tushar Sood, along with his relatives, were on their way back home to Sirhind. As the car reached near Chuni, he lost control and the car collided with a tree, consequently a fifteen-year-old boy identified as Parshant Suri and his mother Mini Suri, residents of Pinjore, died on the spot, where as Tushar and other relative were seriously injured. They were rushed to Civil Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. The dead bodies after postmortem examination at civil hospital, Bassi Pathana, were handed over to the relatives. |

2 held for snatching
Chandigarh, November 13 Anita Thakur of hostel No. 4, Panjab University, reported to the police alleging that Gurpreet Singh and Jatinder Singh, both residents of Mohali, snatched her mobile phone from near the Sector 14 and 15 traffic lights point on Thursday night. Mohali, November 13 The woman has left behind an eight-month-girl child and her husband. She was said to be under depression.

Man found dead on Zirakpur-Chandigarh highway
Zirakpur, November 13 The police was suspecting that it was a case of hit and run. The deceased was identified as Gurnek Singh, a resident of Shakti Nagar, Dera Bassi. According to the police, a passerby informed the patrolling team that a man was seen lying near the Bristol hotel. After reaching the spot, the patrolling team took him to Dera Bassi Civil Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. He is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter. However, no case had been registered till filing of the report. |

St Stephen’s outplay DAV Club
Chandigarh, November 13 Both the teams were evenly balanced and they shared honours in the regulation period by playing a one-all draw. The organisers applied the tie-breaker rule to resolve the deadlock. Only Neha Pandey could convert her spot kick for DAV Club, Kamla, Monica and Tarni frittered away their chances. For St Stephen’s Club, Shikha, Simran and Tanvi Bhagava converted their penalties into swift action to help their team retain the title after a tough battle in the regulation period. Junior international Tanvi Bhargava was today tightly policed by the DAV Club defence. Still this brilliant striker was able to restore parity for St Stephen’s Club. Tanvi scored the equaliser in the 46th minute on the move initiated by Simran. She gave a through pass to Monica, who slipped the ball to Tanavi. The international forward unleashed a good shot from top of the box to catch the DAV Club defence napping. Earlier, DAV Club took the lead in the 31st minute. Right stopper Tarni gave pass to right half Kamla, who passed it to Neha Pandey. Neha got the better of two defenders before scoring a brilliant goal. Pikka wins ladies golf medal round
Chandigarh, November 13 Pikka tied with S Ratia both carding nett 70 scores. But Pikka was declared the winner because she had a better back nine. Neelu Chopra clinched the title in the bronze division scoring a nett 79. Three strokes behind at 82 was Baljinder Mangat. According to Dalbir Sahi, handicap tournament manager of the ladies section, 21 ladies took part in the November competition. 31 players selected for coaching camp
Chandigarh, November 13 Rakesh Bakshi, general secretary of the association, said a final team would be selected during the camp. The selected team will represent Chandigarh in the 32nd Sub-Junior National Football Championship for Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy to be held in Gurgaon (Haryana) Group IV from November 28 to December 7. The final round will be played in Gurgaon on December 10. In Group IV, Chandigarh have been placed with Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in Group A, Group B comprises Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. GMSSS-42 to face Dhudial school in final
Chandigarh, November 13 In the first semifinal, Dhudial school beat Spring Dale Senior School, Amritsar, by three goals to two, while in the second semifinal, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 42, Chandigarh, beat Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowali, Jalandhar, with an identical score of 3-2. Meanwhile, about 22 senior hockey teams have arrived in the city to participate in the 46th Jindal Stel Nehru Hockey Tournament, which will be held at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium from November 14. Simranpreet leads DAV to victory
Chandigarh, November 13 The event is being organised by Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy. DAV school won the toss and elected to bat. They posted an impressive total of 164 in 29 overs. Bhagminder Singh and Arvind Chabra contributed 26 and 22 runs. However, the batsman, who virtually bolstered the inning of DAV school was Simranpreet Singh, who topscored with a polished knock of 60, which was laced with six fours and one six. Four of DAV school batsmen were run out. Akash (2 for 29) and Dhurav (2 for 34) were the main wicket takers for Bal Bharti School. In reply, Bal Bharti were dismissed for 92 in 26 overs. 8 teams for badminton meet
Mohali, November 13 The teams include Doha, Qatar, Bahrain, Muscat, Riyadh, Fujiarah, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Nearly 64 teams will participate in the three-day event, in which a total of 275 participants, including top ranking players, will face each other. Around 20 national ranking players will participate in the individual capacity in first-ever national badminton championship to be held in Punjab. The tournament will be conducted on league-cum-knock out basis in the U-14, U-16 and U-19 categories.

Tamanna claims top spot in rink race
Chandigarh, November 13 Tamanna got the third place in U-12 rink race I (quad). Her timing was 46 seconds, while second place was bagged by Delhi’s Dhairya Taneja (44.46 seconds). Himani Beniwal from Delhi stood third. He took 45.19 seconds to complete the round. Karan Lamba in the U-19 category and Bhavdeep Singh in the U-16 category secured the second place in rink race I (41.30 seconds and 42.81 seconds), respectively. Sawtantar Pal Singh from Amritsar and Majini Gill from Kurukshetra secured the first position with 40.38 and 41.25 seconds, respectively. Shubham Jindal (Ghaziabad) and Rohan Ajit Singh (Vadodara) stood third. In the U-14 category, Baljot Singh, Amritsar, (41.57 seconds), Raghav Sachdeva, Delhi, (41.82 seconds) and Aksh Gurnain Singh, Amritsar, (42.70 seconds) claimed the first three positions. Chandigarh, November 13 Krishna Tirath, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, will confer the award on him tomorrow at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The prize carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a silver medal, a certificate and a citation. Bhavdeep has also received a state honour by the UT administration on August 15. |
