Gang of thieves busted:
The police busted a gang of thieves and arrested Mukhtiar Singh, George Masih, Dikson Masih, residents of Gillanwali village, Sukhwinder Singh of Daburji village. The police party seized water taps, showers and other sanitary articles valued at Rs 50,000, which were stolen from sanitary shops few days back. During investigation all the accused confessed to their crime.

Bathinda
Yatra enters state:
The Saptakranti Vichaar Yatra, which has been organised to mark the birth centenary of socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, entered the state yesterday night after passing through 15 states. It started on August 9 and will culminate in New Delhi on October 12. The yatra has been organised by the Rashtra Seva Dal and the Yusuf Meherally Yuva Biradari under the leadership of Dr Sunilam of the Madhya Pradesh Kisan Sangharsh Samiti. It started its three-day programme in the state. It aims at unifying and creating links among various non-violent peoples movements that are seeking basic necessity for all.

International Seniors’ Day: The Senior Citizens Council, Bathinda, is celebrating the International Seniors’ Day on October 1-2. The occasion will be marked by events like 100m race for members of 60-65 years age-group, 200m race for those in 66-70 years category and 400m walk for members above 70 years. On October 2, a programme will be held at the Ambedkar Bhavan at 1 pm to mark the occasion.

Housing scheme: The Punjab and Sind Bank has entered into an MOU with the HUDCO under the scheme of Interest Subsidy for Housing the Urban Poor (ISHUP), pioneered by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MH&UPA) to provide low-cost housing to economically weaker sections and low income segments. Loan amount available will be from Rs one lakh to Rs 1.60 lakh. GS Bindra, General Manager (PS), Punjab and Sind Bank and Rajendra Paul, regional chief (NCR), HUDCO, signed the MOU.

Art of Living: The Art of Living Organisation organised a prison smart programme from September 18 to 25 in Central Jail, Bathinda. The course was attended by 55 inmates and conducted by Balram Shukla and Sumeet Arora. It was the fourth such camp in the Central jail in the last one month.

Rally against femicide: Different Convent School, Bathinda, organised a rally on awareness programme regarding female foeticide in which 250 students took part. The rally was held in villages Nandgarh, Ghudda and Baho. Social workers Veenu Goyal, Sadhu Ram Kushla and MK Manna led the rally.

Workshop marks NSS Day: A three-day workshop on disaster preparedness was organised at the SSD Girls’ College here on the occasion of the NSS Day i.e. September 24. College president Dr Anil Kumar Bansal welcomed the guests. Vice-president Amarnath Goel, principal Parminder Kaur Tanghi, programme coordinator, NSS, Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr paramveer Singh enlightened the audience on the importance of the NSS and the significance of the day.

Zonal secy of SBI staff assn:
An employee in the local industrial area branch of the State Bank of India, Tarsem Chand Jindal, has been elected zonal secretary of the State Bank of India Staff Association, Chandigarh circle.

2 teenagers killed:Two boys were killed while one injured when an unidentified vehicle hit them on the Sangrur-Barnala road on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Jaswinder Singh (16) and Manpreet Singh (18), both residents of Bahadurpur village.

Jaish supporter arrested:
The police arrested an overground worker of the Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit in the city, who had allegedly come to deliver hawala money to his associates, on Friday. Police sources said the overground worker identified as Zubair Ahmed of frontier district of Poonch was arrested from near the bus stand. The police is interrogating the arrested overground worker to find out about his links and motive to come to Jammu.

Age relaxation sought: While lauding the apex committee meeting held on Wednesday, Moti Kaul, president of the All-India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), on Friday urged the state government to declare a time-bound employment policy for the Kashmiri migrant youth. Kaul demanded special age relaxation for those qualified persons who had become overage during these years of exile.

Share market ‘outlook healthy’: Experts of Sharekhan, one of India’s leading retail broking houses, have said the market outlook was improving as the economic data of many countries and institutional buying interests have aided the markets to hover around 15,000 mark for the past couple of months. They said the growth was despite a weak monsoon in the country and the edgy Chinese markets.

Hizb financial adviser held:
Zahoor Hussain Kamal, a financial adviser of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, was arrested on Friday in connection with the Kishtwar bank robbery case. Nearly Rs 25.79 lakh stolen from a bank were seized during a raid in Kishtwar town. Over Rs 1.6 crore were stolen from the main branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank at Kishtwar town on the intervening night of July 7 and 8. With his arrest, the Doda police has started probing the alleged militant links in Bhaderwah bank fraud. The police has been trying to find militancy connections in the Bhaderwah bank fraud after the involvement of militants was established in the Kishtwar bank robbery case.
