12 safai sewaks to be deployed at civil hospital:
Twelve more safai sewaks (sanitation workers) will be deployed in the local Civil Hospital soon for improving sanitation conditions there. Dr Sahni also said that negligence in the performance of duties by any staff member would not be tolerated as she was committed to provide better healthcare facilities to the rural as well as urban people. She said that two mobile medical units (mobile buses) were visiting villages to provide healthcare facilities to villagers by way of examining them and providing medicines free of cost.

Bathinda
BJP leader held for duping:
The Bathinda police on Saturday arrested a BJP leader, Ramesh Kumar, on the charge of duping one Pardeep Mangla of Rs 33.5 lakh. The victim had lodged a complaint that Ramesh and his brother Jitendra Kumar took the amount as a price of a plot, which did not belong to them. However, terming it a fake case, BJP leadership gheraoed the Kotwali police station and met senior officials. An inquiry has been initiated in the case.

Two booked: With the recovery of 20 drums of different lubricants, the Kotwali police booked two persons for running the trade from a rented accommodation on the Bhatti road here on Saturday. According to police sources, Amandeep Singh of Goniana and Mehar Chand of Bareta used to repack lubricants in small packs without a valid licence. A case has been registered. However, the accused are at large.

Body of baby girl recovered: Volunteers of the Sahara Jan Seva on Saturday recovered the body of recently-born girl near Gobindpura bridge of the Bathinda canal. The police has registered a case under section 318 of the IPC against unidentified persons.

Ferozepur
BSF assurance to farmers:
Members of the border area sangharsh committee called on the DIG BSF, Ferozepur, and apprised him of their demands recently. Karan Singh Dhaliwal said that the DIG gave a patient hearing to the farmers and assured them of the utmost cooperation. Dhaliwal said that the main issues include opening of fencing gates, issuance of duplicate identity cards to the farmers having land holdings across the fence, NOC for tubewell connections for the border farmers besides some other issues.

Gurdaspur
Gurdaspur to have agricultural college:
Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah on Thursday announced that the regional research station of the PAU, Ludhiana, here would be upgraded as an agricultural college. Langah was here to inaugurate a regional kisan mela. He said Gurdaspur would have litchi councils and a basmati estate. He said 65,000 farmers would be provided new seed free of cost for half acre. Efforts were afoot to have 25 per cent seed replacement every year. Langah released a book, “Phaldaar Bootian Dian Mukh Samasiawan”, (major problems of fruit plants). PAU Vice-Chancellor Manjit Singh Kang said university scientists were laying focus on technologies for crops suitable for the area.

BJP in talks with power panel:
Welfare of the people of the state is the main consideration of the state unit of the BJP and it will not become a party to follow those government decisions, which are against the interest of the common man. This was stated by state BJP chief Rajinder Bhandari here on Friday. He said the party was discussing the hike in domestic and industrial power tariff with the regulatory commission and would take positive decisions soon.

Fortyfour NCC cadets of the Govt Senior Secondary School for Boys planted 100 saplings of various fruit and medicinal plants at school’s grounds under the leadership of NCC officer of the school, Lieutenant Suresh Kaushal. Col Bishan Dass was the chief guest and Col AK Vohra, Commanding Officer, 14 Punjab Battalion, NCC, Nabha, was the guest of honour. Principal of the school Bhola Singh was also present.

Quarterly meeting:
The Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society of Northern India will be holding its quarterly meeting at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Kamla Nehru Hospital on Sunday. President of the organising committee Gynaecologists and experts in their specialised fields from premier medical institutes would be attending the meeting. Participants from the PGI, Chandigarh, CMC and DMC, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jammu, Patiala, Amritsar and Dharamsala would also attend the meeting.

Appointed: Chairman of the Congress Teachers Department (Campus Unit) Dr Ramesh Chauhan has appointed Dr Shyam Lal Kaushal as vice-president, Dr Hari Mohan as general secretary, Dr Manu Sood as joint secretary and Dr Davinder Sharma as treasurer.

Promoted: SD Sharma, AGM in the Shimla circle of Punjab National Bank, has been promoted to the post of Deputy General Manager (DGM). Sharma has been handling different assignments in various circles of the bank.

CM’s resignation demanded:
Bhim Singh, chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, has demanded resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for having failed to trace the culprits involved in the rape and murder of two women in Shopian. Bhim Singh blamed the Chief Minister for the murder of social activist Mohammed Hassan Zargar, who was taking lead role in the movement of the people of Shopian to identify the killers of the women.

13 hurt in road mishaps: As many as 13 persons were injured in road accidents in and around winter capital on Saturday. A motorcyclist was reportedly hit by a rashly driven tractor at Kot Punnu in Kathua district, injuring the rider, Ajay Kumar of Ram Leela Ground, and Sunil of Nagri. Both injured were rushed to Nagri Hospital. Meanwhile, 11 others were admitted to Government Medical College here after they were injured in different road accidents.

5 consume poison: Five persons, including a girl, allegedly tried to end their lives by consuming some toxic substances in their respective houses here. They have been identified as Vipin Kumar of Bishnah, Siraj Bala of Rajouri, Pardeep Kumar of Kotli Rayian in RS Pura, Bharat Bushan of RS Pura and Dharam Pal of Chattisgarh. They have been admitted to Government Medical College here.

Three girls missing: Three girls were reported missing from their houses in Jammu, the police said on Saturday. Deepak Mala of Lohri Chak has been reportedly missing from her house since September 9 while Veena Kumari of Gosan Akhnoor has been missing since September 8 and Rekha Kumari of Purana Pind in RS Pura has been missing since August 22.

Man held with illicit liquor: The police arrested a man at Chack Drab Khan village in Kathua district on Saturday and seized 170 pouches of illicit liquor were from his possession. He has been identified as Jeevan Lal of Chack Drab Khan. A case under has been registered against him.

Fortis opens OPD in Jammu: Fortis Escorts Hospital started its out-patients discharge services (OPD) at Rotary Bhavan, Gandhi Nagar in Jammu here on Saturday. Briefing the media, medical oncologist and haematologist Rajeev Gupta said the people of Jammu seeking cancer treatment would now get super-speciality facilities in the city.

Punish murderers: PDP:
Banihal unit of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday demanded action against the culprits involved in the killing of a poor elderly man in Banihal on Thursday evening. While supporting the people of Banihal who have launched an agitating against the gruesome murder of Mohammad Ramzan Malik, PDP leaders, demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased.
