Result declared: Informing that result cards of the primary (class V) exam conducted by the Education Department in March this year, had been received, the Block Primary Education Officer SS Sharma, advised heads of all the government and private schools to collect the same on September 10-11 during the office hours.
One held over property dispute: The Abohar police arrested one Rajinder Nath Chhabra in connection with a case that was registered on the complaint of his New Delhi-based brother Virender Chhabra, sources said. Virender had in his complaint lodged with the Punjab DGP alleged that his brother Rajinder had usurped ancestral property. The complaint was investigated by the Ferozepore SP (D) and referred to the city police here later.
State has failed to convince Centre on grants, says BJP: BJP state secretary Kamal Sharma regretted that the alliance government in Punjab had not come forward with some substantial plan to convince the Central government for allocation of major development grants. Speaking to the newspersons here on Wednesday, he said that during the first two years the present government had claimed to have spent much more funds (almost five times) as compared to the preceding Captain Amarinder Singh's government but the urban voters could not be made beneficiaries. This resulted in loss of some seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Sharma said.

Students block traffic: Protesting against the withdrawal of student concession bus pass facility in private buses and the alleged hooliganism of the employees of private buses owners, on the call of Punjab Students Union (PSU), the college students on Wednesday blocked the road at the Kachehri Chowk here for about an hour and a half. Kasba said they had given an ultimatum of 72 hours to the owners of private buses to lift their illegal nakas from the roads otherwise they would be compelled to intensify their agitation.

students stage protest: Students of Government Polytechnic College protested today against the government's letter stating that bus passes would not be applicable in private buses. The students said that a majority came from rural areas where government busses do not ply and they were forced to travel in private buses. The students blocked traffic at the Bibi Wala Chowk for about an hour. Around 200 students led by Gagandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh and Rana Pitho raised slogans asking for withdrawal of the government's letter. The students had earlier also given a memorandum to the DC, Bathinda. Members of Punjab Students Union (Shaheed Randhawa) actively took part in the protest.Blood donation camp: A blood donation camp was organised by 91 Medium Regiment to mark its 44th Assal Uttar Day in which 216 units of blood were collected. The camp was inaugurated by Brig H.S. Kaura, commander, Artillery Brigade. The medical support was provided by the Government Medical College, Patiala, and Civil Hospital, Kotkapura. ETT teachers holds rally: The ETT Action Committee organized a rally at the Zila Parishad office on Wednesday. Over 150 teachers raised slogans against the government for it not bringing Zila Parishad schools under the education department. Teachers also demanded that notification of the special grade given to them by the pay commission should be announced soon and teachers who worked for two years on contract before 2006 should be given the benefit of their service as they got regularized later but the two-year period was not added to their total service. They also submitted a memorandum to the ADC (D) Shruti Singh.

Construction of overbridges: The Indian Railways today accepted the proposal of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to replicate Tamil Nadu pattern and hand over construction of railway overbridges (ROBs) to one agency for early completion. The Deputy CM, assisted by state construction agencies, PWD (B&R), the Punjab Infrastructure Develpment Board (PIDB) and the Local Government, met the Railway authorities headed by SK Malik, Additional Member, Railway Board, and VK Sahay, General Manager, Northern Railways, to resolve issues impeding the early completion of
ROBs.

Devi Dayal Prashar, president, Sri Brahman Sabha, Punjab, said on Wednesday that sabha office- bearers in this regard recently met Secretary, Higher Education, KBS Sidhu, who had completed formalities in this regard. Khatti village, near Phagwara, associated with Bhagwan Parshu Ram had been proposed to be named after the Bhagwan and the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala would take necessary action. Prashar said this promised had not been fulfilled.

PKMU flays police action: The Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union (PKMU) has criticised the police action against the farmers at Chandigarh, which resulted in the death of a farmer. Lachman Singh, the Muktsar based general secretary of the PKMU, claimed that 17 farmers of this district were injured. He added that the Chandigarh police had deliberately damaged a private bus owned by the Sagar Bus Service just because it had ferried (BKU) activists from Muktsar to Chandigarh.Lachman Singh said the PSEB should not be unbundled as it would only lead more misery for the agriculture sector. He added that unbundling was a failure in the country and demanded that the Central Electricity Act-2003, which calls for unbundling, should be scrapped.
